Re: Bsides 35 – Teaching Bigfoot to Read

Agree with Algernon that the not finding the body at the end was a great element. But not because we think there is hope of him or his dad finding bigfoot and all becoming right, but rather because, we know sasquatch, if they exist, are certainly hard to find are pretty sure that this event was a ho...

Re: Bsides 31 – The Black and White Animals Trilogy

It was great hearing this again. I remember it vaguely from the episode archives but hearing it unabridged and in full again really made a difference. It's the kind of story you drive around the block an extra few times for because you aren't quite finished listening to it. It's so absurd and hilari...

Re: Drabblecast 303 – Hero, The Movie pt. 1

jeeebus what a production. One of the best, maybe the best, I can remember this year. There's not really a word or 'genre' for the kind of thing that Drabblecast often does here is there? I listen to a lot of radio shows and pretty much every fiction podcast out there and there's just nothing even c...

Re: Drabblecast 302 – The Next Logical Step

Wow, DC has really been bringing the A-game with talent lately! I love Ben Bova and this story did not disappoint. The reverse espionage kicker at the end was a poignant and clever conclusion. I thought some of exposition in the middle playing out the simulation's prediction of mankind's unfortunate...

That was a great story! Terrifying and romantic somehow at the same time. And I agree the delivery and presentation was very natural and added to the experience. Killer artwork.

Yeah that was killer. I burnt it on a CD for my teenage son (hope that's ok!) This is the kind of stuff teachers should be playing for their students in English class!

Re: Drabblecast 295 – Twenty Ways the Desert Could Kill You

Very enjoyable story. I thought it did a good job of making our understanding of events pace well with the little girl's, and the end was just heartbreaking in a good way. This was a "pre-post-apocalypse" story and I really loved its simplicity and how it stuck to the characters relationsh...

Wow, Ken Liu wins the Hugo for Best Short Story this year and Drabblecast simultaneously runs an original commissioned story by him the very same week. Norm, you little Napoleon you. I thought the reading and performance was great for this one but it was probably my least favorite of the Lovecraft s...

Re: Drabblecast 294 – Partial Inventory

Great story! I agree, tame for the Drabblecast but definitely a solid piece none the less. I'm not sure I agree with Varda about the end of the story or the Partial Inventory listing moving the plot much, at least that's not how I took it. To me the partial inventory breaks just felt like part of a ...

Re: Drabblecast 289 – The Cold Equations

I agree with ahilton that the focus would have been better focused on her age, not her gender. The sympathy is there either way. At the same time I was not distracted- certainly did not loathe the story, because of alleged sexism. It was the 50's, people opened doors for women and shows had gentleme...

Re: Bsides 20 – In Search Of The Burmese Floridian Python

Ok, that was hilarious. So many laugh out loud parts. The fact that Connor Choadsworth does not have his own TV show is an utter travesty. I wish they'd actually came across a 15 foot snake at some point, it would have been hilarious watching Norm break character and undoubtedly totally lose his shi...

This is now easily my favorite Frank Key story. And that's not easy to say, because I do love me some mute blind magnetic love monkeys. Probably to an unhealthy degree.

Great episode, great tribute. The poem at the end really got to me. Based on his Moby Dick/Little Women mash-up alone I have a feeling Steve Utley would have been right at home on the Drabblecast.

Re: Drabblecast 283 – The Man Who Drew Cats

Wow, that was something else. It felt like Stephen King but much much better. I had the same thought as the previous poster that the small town was painted as vividly by Smith with text as Tom's tiger was drawn with chalk. I will definitely be checking out more from this author on Amazon. Extremely ...

Re: Drabblecast 270 – The First Conquest Of Earth

That was a lot of fun. :) I like the idea of conquest turning out to be more of a pain-in-the-ass than anything. I wonder if Constantine XI felt this way before the Roman Empire started to finally collapse in on itself. Anyone who'se played Risk knows this: mo' territories, mo' problems yo.

Re: Drabblecast 272 – Power Armor: A Love Story

That story was straight up adorable. And very very well written (and well told.) "Sounds like the risks outweigh the rewards." "I think you're underestimating the rewards." What a great way to frame the idea of love. I agree with strawman, the analogy about trusting and making yo...

234 Jagganath by Karin Tidbeck This is my favorite story of the year. So bizarre, the mental images I get while listening to this are so out there. Very enjoyable, poignant, and amazing world building. 239 Killing the Morrow by Robert Reed Loved this story, it really creeped me out. It wasn't the t...
