Re: Gamification

@ASiD: Good notes. My thinking was that Remy was the first person to discover that murder was worth points ... That would also fail the "fridge logic" test. There are thousands of murders, every hour (just in Chicago alone? ;) ). I imagine that news of murder giving a plus score would be widespread...

Re: Gamification

And therein lies the danger of total gamification. I wonder, though, if you could do a few in-app purchases to avoid having to actually kill your loved ones.

Possible new species of spider builds decoy spiders

They're starting to let their intelligence show. Next they'll start writing words in their webs, telling us about how delicious the pig, sleeping in the stall below, will be once turned into bacon. http://www.wired.com/wiredscience/2012/12/spider-building-spider/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=fee...

Lucky guy. Living the dream!

I'd imagine the best ones were in the distant past, before anyone knew how to predict them. :)

This reminds me of when Arthur Dent learned to fly in the HHG series.

"The trick is to throw yourself at the ground and miss."

Very nice. :)

Re: Drabblecast 265 - Pop Quiz

I'm a little skeptical that the test would be as effective as it was One of my co-workers had a long strip of bubble wrap hanging over the side of his cubicle a couple of days ago. All day long, I could hear the "pop, pop, pop" of passersby pausing to help destroy this little piece of packaging. No...

Rude.

After a terribly painful attempt at excretion, I gave up, vowing to visit a doctor, when I felt something sharp, wedged in my ample cleavage. I fished it out and stared wonderingly at the small iridescent scale on my fingertip. A cramp seized my belly and I doubled over in pain. A loud pounding at t...

Awesome. Easy to hear this in Norm's voice in my head. Agreed. This is one of the better drabblepoems I've seen, sticking to meter (mostly) and rhyme scheme and following a coherent line of thought. Very disturbing and definitely one I'll be reading to my daughter when she's a bit older.

I thought your name was familiar! I just recently joined and have been going through the archives so I can catch up. I really liked your story and this drabble was pretty cool, too. (For the record, I'm a bit of a LEGO nerd, and am glad to see it written correctly.) Welcome to the community. ...

I thought I was the only person on the planet referring to certain people as "chuckleheads" One of my co-workers calls his kids knuckleheads all the time, but I have been known to throw chuckleheads at appropriate targets. :) As for the drabble: *groan* Don't get me wrong...that's a happy groan. I just got approved for a sizable loan of temporal currency, so I will be celebrating 3012. The interest payments will be hell to pay, especially once the introductory rate is increased after seventy-two months. Still worth it. :)

I see your point, and I can sympathize. I recently watched Mr. Holland's Opus for the first time and was disappointed to find that at no time during this otherwise fine movie was Richard Dreyfuss' character revealed to be a cartoon penguin.

This really disappointed me. I was expecting a story about the big red and white reindeer that brings toys to all the good little girl and boy reindeer around the world, pulled in his sleigh by eight fat little men.

Try harder, Phin.

Family Obligations - The First Month

Had it only been a month? She had tried to escape so many times, only to lose what little freedom they had allowed. Still, she had to try again. As she worked, loosening the nails in the floor, her own nails turned red and wet. He delivered her dinner with that mixed look of shame and pride, a small...
