Re: Gamification

@ASiD: Good notes. My thinking was that Remy was the first person to discover that murder was worth points. I think it's reasonable to say that someone had to be first, and as an obsessive gamer she had the motivation. I tried to give the impression that if a guy who didn't take it THAT seriously co...

Joseph submitted his proposal. He checked his score. Proposal complete: +500 points. On his way home Joseph hit five green lights in a row. He checked his score. Green lights hit: +250 points. Combo: x5. Total: +1,250 points. In the elevator, he checked the rankings. He was in the top 100 in the reg...

Re: Lapsarian

This reminds me of when Arthur Dent learned to fly in the HHG series. "The trick is to throw yourself at the ground and miss." Very nice. :) Thanks! HHG was certainly the inspiration for the twist at the end. My original idea was just to write a 100-word description about falling, but as soon as I ...

Can you feel that? That's your heart, pumping at double its normal rate. It's trying to tell you that you're about to die. But don't listen to it. Try to focus on the sensation of air accelerating past your face. Blink the tears from your eyes, and count the floors of the skyscraper as they rush by....

Re: Drabblecast 253 - Maybe the Stars

I'm catching up on my podcast listening right now - just listened to this a few days ago. It actually inspired me to go in a certain direction with a short story I was writing at the time. Thanks Samantha!

Re: Rude.

So I saw this:  after your story, and immediately took it for the thing that crawled up the narrator's butt. Upon mouse-over, I saw that it was "Evil or Very Mad".

"Arrrrrgh!!! I'm so angry I could crawl up a butt!!!"

@JMiriah - I've actually never played Minecraft. I hear it's addictive, so I stay away. @purplemur - It's my intention to frequently post drabbles in this forum. And when I get caught up on the episodes (damn audio books have boxed me out of podcast listening time for too long) I will be contributin...

Thanks - I've been listening since the beginning. Even had a submission of mine on the show in the super early days: http://www.drabblecast.org/2007/11/15/d ... -trifecta/. Good to finally be a part of the community. :D

8-Bit Carl

Carl couldn’t get hired. He was tired of hearing “not enough relevant experience” when he visited the employment office. One day Carl’s morning coffee came out of the spigot in tiny cubes. “Huh,” he grunted. When he collected the mail, the letterbox looked vaguely as if it were made of LEGO. “Odd,” ...
