Late one night...
Max sipped his coffee slowly as his gaze traversed the diner. A few truckers, a salesman, a couple college kids, the typical late late crowd. The waitress drifted by to refill his cup, caught his eye, flicked her gaze left almost imperceptibly. With infinite care he eased the Colt clear of its holst...

Lab Rat (revised)
"At last," cried the professor, shrugging off his stained lab coat. Despite his exhaustion, he leapt to his feet carrying the vial of precious iridescent liquid. Fumbling with the key, he opened the cage and holding the unsuspecting rat in one hand, he tipped the vial into its mouth. For a long mome...

Thanks for the feedback. I was trying to indicate that the man and rat had switched places, but I can see how unclear that is.

Re: Drabblecast 300 – Bloodchild
Loved this story. Great choice for the 300th episode. I especially liked the way we were slowly drawn into both the horror and the complexity of the characters. Really impressive in a short story.

Yes, that's right. The opponent with the hairy hand might be a vampire or werewolf or something else equally sinister.Varda wrote:Hmm. I'm not sure exactly what's going on here, but I like it. I saw it as two vampires playing for the tasty, tasty snack in the corner. Am I close?

A Game of Chess
They faced each other over the ancient board. A pale hand reached out and carefully moved a pawn one space. Then a hairy hand responded, a knight leapt to intercept. Back and forth they went, in a tense, menacing silence. Over in a dark corner a filthy child sat, blond curls hanging listlessly along...

To My Beloved
There is a song which once heard, cannot be unheard. Long after the final note dies, it grows like a tapeworm within the mind. There is an image which once seen, cannot be unseen. Delight gives way to uneasiness, then to a creeping disgust. There is a fruit which tastes of pomegranate and also despa...

Thanks for the helpful feedback. How about this? Igor pushed the mop slowly around the laboratory. He sighed as the blood and offal sloshed down the drain. Igor had seen better experiments in his tenth grade chemistry lab. His mind drifted back to the sonnet he had been composing. "Oh, what's the us...
