Good writer but boy was he nuts!
Guy de Maupassant's head ached less as the carriage slowed. Gloria twirled the tip of his mustache, laughing softly, interpreting the sneer as flirtation. Escorted into the apartment, she froze, back pressed against the closed door. Her eyes darted left to a crow flapping its black wings, right to t...

I know that my interest in horror is somehow associated with my living a very safe and protected life....

Thanks Zeb, my fellow Chicagoan. Your feedback makes a contributor feel good about posting. I wrote this in verse but was not sure how easily it would read.

Driving Towards the Day
Bringing yourself together this morning, allowing each thought a bid for the day, you negotiate the whole person while bathing, knowing who you'll be when you set on your way. You're passed on the road by searching, splintered faces who peer in cars for some hints or traces. You imagine them plannin...

It's a Scary World Out There
How she dreaded leaving her apartment! It took years for her to feel safe in the small bubble she created around her home, shielded from the crazies, murderers and rapists in the world. But she got the letter and had to go. She rented a car and set out, a knife tucked in her coat, aware that she mig...

Things looked bad
Things looked bad for us the day all the bees died. Breaking news, 24 hour cycles, reporters chewing on facts in every language known to man. All implications were grim and reality followed with well practiced riots, fires, bombs. The ground shook. Global rain began to burn us. Burned through everyt...
