JULY IV MDCCLXXVI

Almost 140 years in her country and she thought she knew who she was. An icon, a badass, a monument of hope. She always performed her duties to those in need, holding vigil over her territory. Then came the day the words from her people changed. All at once many began to turn against her creed. They...

Re: No wrong answers

I agree with Zimmerman. Also I laughed. Not sure if you were aiming for that but it came off as funny in that disconnected Drabblecasty way. Though at the end I felt maybe our protagonist should have a Voight-Kampff test as well. Maybe it just reminded me of Blade Runner... but in any case well done...

Re: Last Night

I like the twist on the trope of the predator becoming prey, and it was entertaining and well written, so much that I kind of forgot it was a trope in the first place. Which is exactly how to do it. Good job.

How To Write A Hit Song

Roy Orbison was enraptured by the beautiful woman swaying on the sidewalk. Naturally, he pulled up to her. He had found his muse. “Hey there, how would you like me to write a song about you?” Orbison asked while opening the passenger door. A week later “Pretty Woman” was recorded, but with mandatory...

Re: A Wish For Susan

This forum used to be very active in that way. It would be nice to see it all brought back from the dead. It’ll just take some time, I assume. I got on here right before the big hiatus, but I’m trying to be as active as possible. It is kind of hard to find so many different ways to say you love a D...

A Wish For Susan

Susan grasped the monkey’s paw. It felt like it was trying to struggle out of her grip for a moment, but she was able to hold on. Now in control of the paw, Susan gave great thought to her first wish, though she had forgotten the well-known fact that said wish would always be cursed. Ever the romant...

Re: The Best Christmas Present Ever

Thanks WB! I appreciate it. I was considering expanding it to a short story, or at least base that as main concept for one. Maybe next year though so if it’s any good I can submit it to places and podcasts. Originally I wished I could have had like 500 words, because I figured I’d really be able to ...

The Best Christmas Present Ever

Billy’s eyes widened as he caught Santa struggling out the fireplace. Santa looked disheveled and exhausted. He seemed sad, not jolly. However, Billy quickly lost these observations in the magic of the moment. “Santa!-“ but Santa cut him off. “I don’t have much time Billy. How would you like the bes...

New Year’s Resolution

Steven knew he had a problem, knew he had to change. No better time to turn a new leaf than a new year. He was adamant about sticking to his New Year’s resolution this time. He’d kick this nasty habit once and for all. If he couldn’t, it’d only lead to a premature death. Steven would be first to adm...

Re: Soon!

Dig it a lot - I try to read these in Norm’s “Drabblecast” voice and it totally worked. I couldn’t help but laugh though, and this has nothing to do on your part, but it reminded me of the South Park where Butters was taken to the vet because the other kids injured him and stapled dog ears on him. H...

Re: Sole Survivors

Sweet revenge. Reminds me a little of the wonderful “Sock Heroes.” Personally, my solution is to not fuss overmuch about color. Just as long as they are the same make, it’s a match. Then you will be spared. And it’s true I do wear gray socks, but also black ones. and I’ll even match ones that aren’...

Great story, super evocative.
Haha I can’t tell if you mean evocative of the original sketch or are complimenting the imagery. Either way, it’s a good thing. Thank you.

Old Gregg (A Horror Parody)

Before I post this, a little background. Horror has never been my genre. I suppose you could say what I write the most, or am most comfortable with, could be called “Dude Lit”. Think High Fidelity by Nick Hornby and you’re in the right ballpark. Lots of dialogue, almost always first person, pop cult...

Re: Sole Survivors

The real question is do you want to wash them again and look for their mates or just throw them all in the trash? That's why I only wear gray socks. Haha, I pretty much stick to gray too incidentally. I mean, not specifically that reason but yeah. I couldn’t get the image of an endless rainbow of c...

Sole Survivors

They stood steadfast, countless soldiers facing the hidden doorway. A woven army of cotton tubes staring at where they knew the portal resided. When it opened, they would not waver. They had waited years, some even decades, plotting their revenge. Contrary to their enemies’ beliefs, they themselves ...
