Re: Drabblecast 289 – The Cold Equations
I'll grant that this is a SF classic, but it's also another version of "You're in a lifeboat with 5 people and the dog, and you need to throw something overboard to keep from sinking. Do you throw the dog out of the boat?" The story didn't do much for me. I enjoyed the narration, but the plot showed...

"The Wreck of the Charles Dexter Ward" is included in this year's WORLD'S BEST FANTASY, edited by Gardner Dozois. Rock it, Drabblecast, for commissioning such an awesome story, and Bear and Monette for writing it! Here is the book's cover, now out to purchase: http://jacketupload.macmillanusa.com/ja...

Ab.So.Lute.Ly. AWESOME.
The story had me from the first line, and the depth of the descriptions and prose carried me from there. Graeme's reading ground the tale into the cobblestones of the Nantucket streets. Great job all around.

Kudos for the full voice cast! Once again, another stellar reading.
And what a beautiful, sad story. Chen's growing affection for the dog, the moment where the dog crawls up on the bed, the realizations at the end...wow...

As always, Norm, your reading done did me proud. And scared the hell out of one of my friends when I told her to close her eyes to listen to the story.
Great job!

Great job!

Re: Drabblecast 256 – Roanoke, Nevada
Perhaps my favorite DRABBLECAST of 2012. A strong story, well read, with enough science to cement certain concepts but not so much as to bog down the tale. The main character's reactions to the aliens fit quite nicely with the narrative. I wasn't certain where the story was going. I had a few ideas,...

Re: Drabblecast 249 – Jimmy’s Roadside Cafe
Really enjoyed this story. The bits of humanity, good, bad, ugly, cemented the narrative and helped draw the moment and setting into sharper relief. From the review on my blog: "This is the tale of surviving a plague the only way one man knows how, by starting over: “After the world ended, Jimmy set...

Re: Drabblecast 241 - The Dead
Great story and great read. Norm's husky, a touch quirky and dark, voice really helped set the mood and kept things rolling. I didn't see the end coming, fully expecting there to be hot, sweaty, pheremone laden sex after they returned to the apartment, but was very pleased with where the tale went f...

Re: Drabblecast 227 – The Star
"The Star" is my favorite Christmas story and has been for years. I've read it aloud at gatherings, snuggled down to it many a Christmas Eve, and when I heard Norm's announcement that THE DRABBLECAST had picked up a Clarke story, I hopedhopedhoped it was "The Star" And on THE DRABBLECAST, hope sprin...

Re: Drabblecast 225 - Trifecta XIX
What a wonderful listen! All three stories were fantastic, the middle Pied Piper tale being the weakest only because of the ending, and the reads were all splendid. "Broken" was the hardest to listen to. As the mother of two children with special needs, it hurt in a way many people cannot understand...

Re: Drabblecast 217 - Followed
I really enjoyed this story, as much for Norm's narrative touch and the subtle soundtrack as for the tale itself. This one rang very true to me: a man who considers himself one of the "good guys" who is suddenly forced to face the fact that each of us carries a bit of the burden no matter how we may...

A great main story (love me some Eugie Foster), a snappy 100 word story, and a snickeringly good tabble.

There is nothing wrong with taking a breather. Just remember that oxygen is addictive and a hard habit to break, so don't indulge too often.

Re: Drabblecast 202 / 203 - Boojum
Glad to see "Boojum" didn't go where I expected. While I still prefer "Mongoose", I think "Boojum" offered a solid return to this universe. The appearance of the Mi-go (SP?) sent a uquick chill up my spine, and I really appreciated that Black Alice didn't come up with a derring-do action plan to dri...

Re: Drabblecast 202 / 203 - Boojum
"Boojum" is off to a good start, not quite as strong as "Mongoose" but even saying that brings the story head and shoulders above many fiction offerings. Though it started a bit slow for my tastes, I really enjoy Black Alice, and thought Dog Collar had the perfect blend of pragmatism and faith that ...

How odd that episode #201 came out before #200. Norm is right...time is not linear. And here we are at #200...Oh. My. My heartfelt thanks to everyone who brought this episode together, from Norm and Matt, to the voice actors and artists, to 19ActionNews, to the folks reaching deep into their pockets...
