There's life on Earth, in the air and underground, there are chemosynthetic worms munching on the sulphur pouring out of undersea vents (black smokers).
With extremophiles like that on Earth, who's to say that the same thing hasn't happened elsewhere?

In some ways I was reminded of Iain Banks debut novel "The Wasp Factory" Honestly that's all I could think of... What a deeply disturbing book that is. I really wish Banks wrote short fiction, but he just doesn't seem to work in that realm at all. If he ever does though, a Banks story on Drabblecas...

Have to say I didn't really gel with this one. It seemed like a one-trick pony and although the voice was good, the story didn't do anything other than punch the "God is a mischievous child" button.
