Re: Drabblecast 139- Let Us Now Praise Awesome Dinosaurs
Jeepers, it's been four or five months since I graced these boards. Time was when I'd spend several hours here every day. Anyway, I really liked this story, although I was listening to it while jogging and my brain wasn't in a place to catch any of the nuance. I just assumed I kept missing stuff bec...

Nigerian/Scottish wedding spam
I'm not sure where to post this one, but this seems as good a place as any! I just got a 419 email from a guy in Scotland claiming to want to book my services for a wedding. As it happens, I perform weddings. If I were Catholic and lived in the UK, I might just have fallen for this one. (And social ...

Mr Tweedy, I'm finding your logic a little circular. You're defining 'evolution' as something to do with natural selection, then every time somebody comes up with an example that shows unnatural selection contributing to evolution you say that it's not actually evolution, because it's not natural. I...

In the natural world behaviour [culture?] and biology are influence each other through natural selection; see the relationship between the organisation of the social insects and their genetic mechanisms, or filial relationships within the structure of lion prides. Arbitrary 'cultural' norms could b...

That's dumb. He's making a gross equivocation to compare cultural advancement to biological advancement. That's like saying a Honda Civic is the next stage in leg evolution. Non-sequitur. Fail. Sorry Doctor Hawking. Oh pshaw. Or, more accurately, I'm almost inclined to agree with you. If we s...

Yeah, what Mr Tweedy said. The story was okay but was let down by the ending. I expected to find out that the guy was some sort of demon, or the other guys in the group were going to go all Rev. Lovejoy on him because drink driving was too bad, even for them. I would have liked a bit more exposition...

Let me say that I didn't really enjoy this a whole lot, but it wasn't the worst thing I've heard. In fact, it wasn't even the worst thing I heard on my drive yesterday. It was okay. I will say that the author took a pretty big risk with this story, and the Drabblecast took a pretty big risk playing ...

He he! I grinned. Change the ending to leave out mention of The Shogun, though. The presence of a Shogun makes the sniper anachronistic. Just say he didn't see the ninja assassins. Nah, I was wondering if there was a play on the word 'shotgun.' I don't think it was intentional, but I've done enough...

Re: frogly
Although, if it really were a god-like creature, it would not have to eat anything, now would it? I supposed. Otherwise you welcome some quizzical lines of inquiry. Prime example: what is it that gods eat? Other gods? If I were a god, of course I would eat all other gods. No use having the rest aro...

I think all reactions to swine flu have been nutty overreactions. This disease has killed, what, about 100 people in the US? That makes it approximately 360 times less deadly than regular flu. This is a big deal why? The big deal is that it hasn't mutated... yet. As it stands, there is very little ...
