Re: Drabblecast 267 – Postapocalypsemas
I enjoyed this one, but I think I'm getting kind of Christmased out. Was a crappy December, and when I'm catching up on my podcasts now post-Christmas road trip, I kind of want it to just be January already. I do like a tale of a sentient robot, and of a dog-like personality, which Sandeer reminded ...

Re: Bsides 18 – On the Vinegar Valves of Venus
As with most Frank Key stories, this one is somehow both fun and hard to wrap my head around. He's a warped invidual, he is. He belongs here!

Re: Bsides 19 – How The Moon Got Its Cousin
Eh, it was okay. I like language for the sake of telling a story, but this one seemed too in love with making funny sounding sentences without doing much with them.

Re: Drabblecast 265 - Pop Quiz
Yes, art was excellent. The thing about the art, is you don't really see it for what it is until after you've listened to the episode. I've often tried to guess what an episode will be about by looking at the art, but've not succeeded yet. However after listening, the great art really completes the...

Re: Drabblecast 266 – Little Grace Of The House Of Death
I really enjoyed this one overall, with each of the family members being an embodiment of some trait. But the burning of Whiteface was a bit too much for me. Probably made even more so that at the time I was listening I was driving to the vet to pick up the cremated remains of my recently deceased d...

Re: Drabblecast 265 - Pop Quiz
Very fun and enjoyable. I was watching for the secret test behind the test but I didn't anticipate it. I'm a little skeptical that the test would be as effective as it was, but my amusement at the story does not depend on that being true. And the world that the author created for this purpose was ve...

Re: Drabblecast 264 – The Belonging Kind
I think if you dig a story, the details seem great. If you don't, the details seem like dragging. I'm confused. Was there an actual invasion going on? It just seemed to me to be a diatribe about how people morph to fit, while they do it via mimicry, they are not as happy on the inside as they appea...

Huh, I thought I'd commented on all the back-threads--I don't remember this story, I should go re-listen.

Re: Drabblecast 264 – The Belonging Kind
Only one small nit to pick: Coiffed is not "koyft", but quaffed. (Those frenchies are untrustworthy with appearances.) Oops, you're right-- thanks for pointing that out! Foliage is an instance of the rural south old-timer in me rearing his metathetic head. Is that a southern dialectic pronunciation?

True true. Norm seems to mispronounce two words consistently: "coiff" and "foliage".strawman wrote:Only one small nit to pick: Coiffed is not "koyft", but quaffed. (Those frenchies are untrustworthy with appearances.)

Re: Drabblecast 263 – Betty Flesh And The Meat Man
I read this one in slush and passed it up. Sorry to be a foreign pest (as in, not speaking your brand of "English"), but "passed it up" in this context means: (a) passed it up the chain of command and recommended it be purchased OR (b) passed it up, as in, passed on this one, as in, voted NO on thi...

Re: Drabblecast 263 – Betty Flesh And The Meat Man
I read this one in slush and passed it up. Love it, love it, love it. My only complaint when I read it slush was that I got very confused when she suddenly fell down his shirt, but since her reaction is also confusion it does make sense, and this time I was watching for it. It does a very good job t...

Re: Drabblecast 264 – The Belonging Kind
This felt like old-school SF/horror in the best of ways. A bit slow to take off, but managed to be intriguing, a gradual build to the moment of the reveal (which to me was the moment that he walked in and found all the Belonging Kind nesting together, creepy and surreal). Interesting to see how a su...

Re: Drabblecast 259 - The Last of the O-Forms
This was one of my favorite stories this year. When people are strange, normal is stranger. Their faces aren't lumpy; yours is too flat. Strange and the twisted make you feel wanted Dollar a head to see you pet a fake cat You're O-Form Deviant from the new norm You're O-Form They come to see you in...

Re: Drabblecast 262 – My True Lovecraft Gave To Me
Maybe naming him "Howard Philips" and referring to him as Mr. Philips would've been a nice touch. Strongly Agree. You're right, that would be better. Especially since I would probably miss the reference until later on, and then would realize the reference in retrospect (which is much more fun than ...

Re: Drabblecast 256 – Roanoke, Nevada
I completely agree with ElectricPaladin. This story drove me nuts because the problem should've been apparent very early on to any thinking person, and the story seemed to be populated by idiots just to drive the moral dilemma. Assuming the aliens don't have religious objections, how about birth con...

I enjoyed this one a lot, better than Boojum though not as good as Mongoose. The zombie megafish was a great addition to the mythos, and I liked the nods to other off-kilter bits of the universe, particularly the doppelgangers in the mirrors (presumably a "Through the Looking Glass" nod in this worl...

Re: Drabblecast 262 – My True Lovecraft Gave To Me
Holy crap I loved this. Even as a child that song was nonsense, and also annoying at its repetitiveness (much like a holiday version of "99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall". I loved how the complete insanity of the traditional song, was turned into the complete insanity of a Lovecraft story. Every image...
