Re: No Halloween episode again?

It's quite extraordinary and way, way more important than this podcast in the long run. I don't know if I'm the only idiot in the community that didn't know Norm's main gig but I can say that, knowing now, I have no desire to pester the man about anything. I don't know his main gig? I know he does ...

Episode identification

So I don't know if anyone still comes here to read this, but I'm trying to find an episode from a few years back. I don't really remember if it was DC or escape pod, but there is enough overlap here that someone might remember it. I'm pretty sure it was a flash story, basic plot was about a guy that...

Does the Cat with Blue Fur have a nickname? or is he always referred to as the Cat with Blue Fur?

Re: Drabblecast 289 – The Cold Equations

Because one of the qualities Maralyn exemplifies is ignorance, she can't actually understand the implications of her actions, until it's too late. Moreover, in this mode of narrative, it's important that the person who dies be someone who—according to ordinary human sensibilities— does not “deserve...

Re: Vote Here! Best Feature Story

Mongoose is one of my favorite short Scifi stories of all time. It's the only drabblecast episode (well, 2) that I haven't removed after listening, because I know I'll go back and listen to it again. It's one of the few drabblecast episodes that I've listened to more than twice (I read/listen/watch ...

Re: DC 170 & 171- Mongoose by Sarah Monette and Elizabeth Bear

I have to say that this is definitely one of my favorite Drabblecast stories ever, and (so far) has my vote for best one of the year.

I really want to hear more stories about this universe, and makes me sad that it's so short and only went to two parts. Need more!!

Re: Drabblecast 155- The Second Conquest of Earth by L.J. Daly

I don't normally like the downer type of story, but the ending just made it all work.
I really like the idea of humans spreading our good qualities like a virus to alien visitors.

On a side note, is it sad that I had to look up the rules for Hot Potato before I understood the drabble?

Re: Drabblecast 153- What Fluffy Knew by Kristine Kathryn Rusch

This has been one of my favorites in a while, especially the part at the end.
I'm just picturing these super advanced but tiny space invaders running into a room full of cats... priceless.

Re: Post your Twitfic Twabbles Here! (General Content)

Here's my second attempt at a twitfic:

“The cats on her bed, she doesn’t have long.” said the nurse as she exited the room.
“Faces are warmest,” thought the cat.

I can't agree. Following the same logic, people are obligated to supportively interact with any needy person who becomes obsessed with them. Unless you're saying we should treat animals better than humans. Which I think you'd get more support for Tribbles than Wandering Spiders. First of all, I def...

Soul or no soul, thats not really the point. When you get a pet or an automaton, you are entering into an unwritten contract with it to meet its needs while it meets yours. If you own a dog or a golem or whatever, you have certian expectations from them, ie they guard your property, and you have a d...

More on the wandering spider story

Besides being in the Guinness Book of World Records as the most deadly spider on earth, a quick reading of their Wikipedia page ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brazilian_wandering_spider ) reveals this little morsel: The wandering spiders are so-called because they wander the jungle floor at night, r...

I'm trying to figure out how this was supposed to be a surprise ending for people. It may just be that I'm a bit twisted, or maybe I listen to too many of this type of story, but I figured him killing everyone was a foregone conclusion, and was waiting till the end to see if there would be a real su...

My favorite was always "The Magician's Nephew." Probably because it had a more sci-fi feel to it. The characters hop in and out of four different universes, making all sorts of discoveries about the nature of reality as they go. It was more of a "big ideas" book with almost no s...

It's inspired by the Ankh Morpork guild system...
Make the criminals enforce the rules...
If you aren't part of the guild, then the guild is the one that has to hunt you down, and if you are part of the guild, then the law knows who and where you are.

Fried in Butter

The phone rang. I answered on the second ring. "Serial Killers Guild, Ed speaking." My boss answered "Ed, we have a problem. It's the Park Side Strangler. He went hunting without a license." "That sounds bad." "It's worse, the vic was paid up on his protection for ...

I found this one surprisingly refreshing.
Yes everyone dies, and that's not horribly happy, but at the same time it was a good ending in that the families are still together, and in a way that makes what happened all right.

I really liked this one, a lot. The story was really good, and I really liked the idea of these robots replicating through people that have more to apologize for. I envision there being small armies of robots carrying apologies all over the place. The production was good, as always, but the laugh tr...
