Re: A man destroys his mouth attempting to prove a point

Heh. I didn't intend this post as a challenge, but I am interested in constrained writing, lipograms and that. So have at it! The imagery for this piece was inspired by "Today I Wrote Nothing", an anthology of stories by Daniil Kharms, the famous Russian absurdist and pioneer of microfiction.

A man destroys his mouth attempting to prove a point

"A hundred words?!" He guffawed. "I could say that without closing my mouth." "But that would mean you couldn’t use words like 'bee' or 'monster'." Smugly, he began. "She looked into... the eyes of our cat and asked it to... wed her... the cat declined... 'cause she was a different... a different ss...

Twenty-Ninth Century Cuisine

In the future, all food will be prepared and eaten in the form of sandwiches, in order to make eating more productive for our hectic lifestyles. You’ll have ham sandwiches and cheese sandwiches, like we do now, but you’ll also have cornflake sandwiches, porridge sandwiches, curry sandwiches, pasta s...

The Penguin

The Penguin Only a few more stops , I thought to myself. My head was pounding, but I couldn't miss another day of work. I blearily watched a stampede of geriatrics collect their tickets, momentarily accepting that a penguin had also boarded the bus. It waddled over to the adjacent seat, and looked ...

Grey Hairs

"You pull one of 'em out, and two'll grow back!" My mother cackled.

Until I finally tried it, and subsequently went bald.

Nightmare

"You're overdressed." My boss said, scowling. "You work in an office, not the court of Camelot." I looked down. I wasn't wearing anything except the skin on my back. They grinned, handed me a scalpel. I was terrified. I started cutting, and screaming. I woke up, dripping with sweat and blood. "Bad d...

Re: Breton's wasp

FYI, André Breton was the principle founder of surrealism, and used automatic writing (Writing a stream of consciousness without stopping or editing) in his novels. Hence the flow and disconnection of images.

Breton's wasp

There was a wasp five feet tall with shiny black antennae. The wasp buzzed into library. Hushed by the librarian, he felt out of place and ashamed. Then he shrank, so that he could fit into an old man's ear. He flew into his mind, a small, dusty attic, filled with memories of childhood toys, fishing...

Thirst

Thirst Rosemary entered the apartment, gasping for a drink. "I'm parched. Edgar, dear, pour me a glass of cabbage water." Edgar took a jug out of the fridge, and poured the contents onto the counter next to the glass, and into the carpet. "Do you want me to go thirsty?" "... No." "Can't you see the...

Bueno!

I'm a big fan of slipstream fiction, stories that make you feel weird, as if you're struggling with a cold, barking fish. Though not really.

Shanty “What’s that?” Koi wondered, gazing at the shadow above. Swimming lazily to the surface, Koi wondered why she was a carp. It was a lonely life, with only the wise old octopi for company. The crabs scattered. Koi was about to follow them, when she was struck by an anchor. The ship's crew were...
