Re: Drabblecast 247 - How I Crippled a World for Just 0.01 C

Apologies if this seems off topic given the above conceptual IP debate but can I just give a little shout out for the most excellent drabble? Whilst we're nailing absurdities to the wall I flunked Kindergarten gave me that amused-despairing feeling of something that is true. Education systems spiral...

Re: Standards

A name like Buttons makes me think of a stripper... That's magic. She'd be the weirdest stripper ever. This side of the pond Buttons is the lead perk-o-tron in our Cinderella pantomimes. Obliged to overact, slap their thighs a lot, incessantly chirpy and all that. Like if Obelisk had fallen into th...

Re: Standards

Switch out the toilet for a deep hole. But if they can make a deep hole they can bury the body. I was thinking the concrete box kind of bunker, where the only out hole is the toilet (not counting the irradiated entrance). And you can't flush a femur. Mind you, I hadn't thought about the supplement ...

Standards

Standards dropped after the bombs fell, that was no surprise, but it definitely changed us when Buttons died. Where do you bury someone in a bunker? The stench – I can still taste it now – made the decision for us. It was so messy that we boiled her, one piece at a time, tearing off chunks of her fl...

Eddie Izzard (who was a transvestite comedian for years before he became an actor your side of the pond) has a skit on the theme (about 7:15 if you want to skip to it).

Re: Butcher (My 3rd Drabble)

I like this one, creepy. It's a good descriptive piece whether it's from a cow's perspective, or spoken by little Tommy after summer camp went terribly terribly wrong. Or by gran just before the care home realise their assets. Or my girlfriend sometime after she calls Pink Floyd, 'you know, a bit bo...

'There's a ledge. Keith found a ledge!'
'Hey man, pass down that guitar, I've got a riff.'
They made Keith out of the same stuff as the Queen Mum and black box recorders.

How many has he been through?! Nice, reminds me of Moustaches from one of the early Trifectas (2 or 3, I think).

Just change it to Doom, easily solved. Also, at the risk of snarling the word count, within is one, not two. More cats should have harbinger-esque names, IMHO.

Re: Drabblecast 066 - Creatures in Disguise

So I just want to check here - there's a story about killer ducks, the standardised term for people going missing is mentioned multiple times, both in the story and by Norm, there's a whole bunch of discussion afterwards and NO-ONE goes near the 'ab-duck-tion' gag? Shame on all of you... ps: Archon....

The New Book of Revelations, I.i-iii

The gates were immense and swollen with rust. The lieutenant obliterated the locks and Dr Castella quickly retrieved the fragments, cooing in veneration. Something moved in the mist ahead. I nudged Strauss. Weapons raised, we took point as we breached the Gates of Heaven. The moaning was reverence s...

A Cold Day in Hell

Baal, rubbed his hands together, his breath misting from all three fanged maws. The moisture condensed on the tips of his mandibles, dripping to fall untold distances. Far below, long after the drops hit terminal velocity, he knew these tiny morsels would elicit screams on impact with flesh. He was ...

'Darling?' 'Susan?' 'No, that's your sister. It's me, Faith.' The display flashes arcanely below the technician's fingers. He strokes an icon, deafening my husband, and says, 'He's corrupted.' He gifts hearing again. 'What's happened? I can't feel anything.' 'Don't you remember? The upload, your can...
