Lisa's Pony (Hands Behind the Glass Theme)

Lisa danced from foot to foot beside her mother’s bed. “Mommy, I can’t sleep.” Olivia stirred. “What’s wrong?” Lisa showed her a pink, squashy, pony-shaped pillow. “Buttercup’s tag itches me!” “Just pull it off,” mumbled Olivia. “I can’t.” Lisa pointed to the tag, which read: DO NOT REMOVE UNDER PEN...

Re: Name That Extinction Event

Thanks, Dr. B - very kind of you to say so! The sentiment's mutual! I showed your "Nicotine" drabble to about 10 people, it had me laughing so hard! :D Also, good guess with the Ice Age. You're close. The extinction event is The Great Oxygenation Event , when the onset of photosynthesis wreaked a wh...

Name That Extinction Event

The researcher marveled at her discovery. It was all so elegant. The equation made perfect sense. Water plus carbon dioxide--in conjunction with sunlight--would yield all the food they needed. World hunger would end overnight. One simple gene splice and everyone could make their own food on demand. ...

Re: Native American Post-Apocalypse

Gotta say I love this concept. Wouldn't it be cool to expand this to story-length and play around with apocalypse tropes? I'm thinking Shaun of the Dead meets Inglourious Basterds but with Native Americans defending the home turf against the white zombie hoards. :D

Re: Drabblecast 273 - The Electric Ant

Every time I think the Drabblecast can't get any better, an episode like this comes along and proves me wrong. And this coming after a wave of solidly awesome stories. I wanted to comment on them all but made myself pick just one from the last 10 so as not to be completely ridiculous. I listened to ...

Zombie Appleseed

A bird must’ve crapped that appleseed onto the moist, organic matter of his rotting brain. It took root, nurtured by the sun and the putrid decaying tissue of Johnny’s body. Soon it blossomed into a fine apple tree. You couldn’t tell where the tree ended and Johnny began! He shambled westward, scatt...

Re: Best of all possible

"An optimist believes he lives in the best of all possible worlds. A pessimist fears this is true." That pretty much sums up what Candide makes fun of! Call it accidental literary synergism? Love the idea of IKEA-style universe assembly. I like to think this means Thor's the guy selling all the par...

Bah, I can't ask you to do that - that's a lot of trouble to go through to restock my D&D miniatures! ...Now if you're coming to Dragon*Con this year, let's totally arrange this and I'll buy you a drink. If I get the urge for illegal Canadian contraband, I promise to involve you in the grassroots de...

Mixed Media

You could recognize the sculptor's exquisite golden nudes by their unusual pose: arched back, body balanced on the tips of the fingers, toes, and the crown of the head. When asked what inspired him, the artist would grin enigmatically and reply, “Each piece undergoes its own unique transformation.” ...

Re: Choking Hazard (Hands Behind the Glass Theme)

You can't get Kinder Eggs? WTF?? They're everywhere here in Canada. Want some? Sad but true. I used to be able to bring them back in my suitcase when visiting family in Germany, but they've started cracking down on that too, if you can believe it! I'm not really sure what the logic is. Apparently A...

Re: Choking Hazard (Hands Behind the Glass Theme)

I always thought the Drabblecast forums were a place you were exiled to , not exiled from . Kind of like 4chan, but with better taste. I mean, really, could we honestly sleep at night knowing you're out there, loose on another unsuspecting forum somewhere? Gotta keep the inmates in the asylum and al...

Re: Drabblecast 265 - Pop Quiz

Wow, this episode encapsulated everything I've come to love most about the Drabblecast! Great Drabble, Twabble, art, story, and production. And Norm's reading of the Frank Key piece? Epic. Dare I say... a touch Shatner-esque, even! Was that intentional, or am I just projecting? Loved the feature sto...

The Last Temptation of Ginger (The Devil Theme)

On the rooftop, Satan sighed. By contract, he had to do this with anyone claiming godhood, but this was getting ridiculous. “Ginger,” he said, “if you’re God, throw yourself from the rooftop.” The feline washed her paws. “You’ve got to pick one. Either jump or refuse,” Satan explained. Ginger ignore...

Or would that be White Brigade? HA! Pure genius!! I bow to your clever wit, good sir. I may very well have to steal that title when I give this to my friend! I think the poet you're looking for is Tennyson . Unless you mean this Kipling poem ? I was surprised to learn that Kipling wrote a send-up o...
