Shepherd's Delight

Two shepherds headed off with their flock to graze in the summer pastures, one a veteran and the other his apprentice. “It gets lonely out here.” The veteran said. “If you find yourself in need, take one of the sheep into your bed. I shall not make fun of you.” Days passed. It was indeed lonely. One...

Can You Tell Me How To Forget…

He had been sitting at the television for hours. I had enough. It was time for him to experience the world. “Go outside, Clovis!” Clovis sighed. He got up and slowly shuffled towards the door. As he reached for the knob, Clovis paused. “Dad, do I have to go out there? There is a vampire, gigantic bi...

Re: Prototype

I liked this one a lot. My only question would be how it would translate in audio. It would be a hard read, but as a spec fiction piece, I think it is highly successful. It is art for lack of a better word. My only issue was the last sentence. Shouldn't it be "Everyone of you" instead of "Every one ...

Re: The Shave-iour of Mankind

Monsieur, Hest, and Varda,

When you are done, you guys should take all the Moustache series, combine them and post them as a short story in the forum.

Re: The Seven Cities of Cibola

Original Version (93 words) ---you can see what I added to make the version above exactly 100. However, I think this earlier version reads and rhymes better. Legends of old, tell of seven cities of gold, To the north is where they shall be. With sword in hand, I journey through sand, To the land of ...

Re: The Seven Cities of Cibola

Damn, I cant tell you guys how hard it was to get a poem that rhymes to come out to exactly 100 words.

In any event, this was obviously inspired by Poe's El Dorado and the Coronado Expedition. It is my homage to Zuni (the seven cities of Cibola).

The Seven Cities of Cibola

Legends of old, tell of seven cities of gold, To the north is where they shall be. With sword in hand, I journey through the sand, To the land of the Ashiwi. Across mesas and mountains I ride, consumed with my pride, I search for the prize with glee. I take what I will, and care not who I kill, In t...

Re: Morel Dilemma

I am reminded of the Norm halloween intro in which he urged these folks to go out and have a ball, it's the one night people won't slam the door shut on them... and they get candy. \\ I wonder what would happen if when the Christian's knocked on your door, you just opened it up and started handing ...

Re: Measure the Immeasurable

I loved this one. It was sweet, but not too sweet. Also well written. It reminds me of a story on escapepod awhile back about mad scientist love.

Does this mean we are moving on from moustaches?

I do not know why our border is dashed. We are borded by Sandia Pueblo to the south, Santa Ana Pueblo to the northwest, and San Felipe Pueblo to the north. Then there is those horrible blights known as Albuquerque and Rio Rancho, but those terrors... like Cthulhu are best not spoken of.

Re: August 10, 1680

Thanks Hale. I get where you are coming from. However, I chose independence because that is the word the tribes give to it today. To most Euroamericans, it is better known as the Pueblo Revolt. It is weird too. I am caught between two celebrations. Pueblos will be celebrating kicking the Spanish out...

August 10, 1680

The ground trembles beneath us. The ogres are restless. In the sky above, the awanyu swarm among the gathering clouds. A storm is coming. The kachina shout blessings from high atop the mesas, while coyote holds court in a stand of pinyon and juniper. All things that once were come again. In the dist...

Re: Don't Look Back

While this is meant to be a horror piece, I cannot help but think this a larger allegory for the way Americans deal with issues in our own society. Now I know I am being a pessimist, but that is what I see. I really liked this one. It is the ending which does it for me. The narrator knows! He knows ...

Re: Higher Being

It certainly is strange fiction. I get the god-complex vibe from it too. For a 100 word drabble, it isn't bad, but it is a little choppy. It would take more than 100s words to really clarify some issues which I am not sure you want to clarify. It is better to let this one remain unclear. That is kin...

Re: The Grandfather Paradox

I actually like where we are at. I google everything and everyone. It is always fascinating to see what comes up: both the good and bad. You can find some really obscure stuff about yourself. I found a 20 minute video done by some college students of me reading a paper at a small museum in Las Vegas...
