Re: Drabblecast 400 & 401- We Who Stole the Dream

Thanks everyone! It was a lot of work but a lot of fun to acquire and put together. This story winds up being pretty tragic in the end but believe it or not, this one is ctually one of the lighter stories Tiptree wrote, IMO. She'd have wound up creating Black Mirror long before Charlie Brooker if yo...

Re: Drabbleclassics 29- Primary Pollinator (191)

This one's an all-time favorite of mine. But the new analysis that follows really articulates what is so awesome about it--that maybe in the end it isn't necessarily sheer might and aggression that ensure natural selection and survival of a species, but rather decency, integrity, and compassion. Wo...

Re: Drabblecst 402- The Moving Stars

Haha. Yah, man I couldn't tell how much I wanted it to swerve into the creepy "she really is a child abductor" route or not! Thought the author did a good job of playing with that ambiguity and made the right call in the end. We never really knew if we were dealing with an unreliable narrator or not...

Re: Drabblecast 405 – Wet Fur

I loved this week's winning Twabble, where time order changes. Super clever and smart. The main story this week was good (to me) but not great. I love my pets but it took long to figure out who the narrator was and then it wasn't really clear who we were hearing from. If it was a swarm of sentient ...

Re: Drabblecast 398- The Day After the Day the Martiians Came

Totally taking this suggestion to heart Kev. I love it too. Sometimes authors can be a little shy or want the story to totally stand on it's own but personally I've always loved hearing a little background, as long as it's presented AFTER the story.

Drabblecast 400 & 401- We Who Stole the Dream

The Drabblecast launches its 8th Annual Women and Aliens Month with Part 1 of “We Who Stole the Dream” by James Tiptree Jr. This is a dark, dystopian tale about sadism and slavery, and the potential for cruelty in all of us. Published postmortem in the 1990 compilation “Her Smoke Rose Up Forever,” t...

Drabblecast 398- The Day After the Day the Martiians Came

This week The Drabblecast presents “The Day After the Day the Martians Came” by Frederik Pohl. Jokes can teach you a lot about the underlying anxieties of a culture. The old line “take me to your leader” was actually a jab at President Eisenhower’s leadership during the Cold War. This story is about...

haha one day Adam. :)

Just watched the Wes Anderson movie Isle of Dogs and it made me think of this story again. Steffen plays with the loyalty aspect of dogs in a cool and creepy (and romantic?) way here.

That's awesome! I didn't notice that about the art Adam! Yah, still finding our legs a little with production balance after relaunch. I think it really works and turns the story into something broader and special when done right-- Drabblecast has always been notable for trying to ad a cinematic elem...
