Leaves

It was just paranoia. The only way to get over the fear was to face it. I drove my car to the most leaf-covered parking space. It was gloomy at 6:30AM, but not cold, so I jumped out of my car and walked to the bus stop. My car lurched a few inches forward. I told myself that it was just settling, a ...

Re: Podcasts I like or don't like

Unlucky encounter with a Razorback? Nah, it was what I thought I wanted. It was over six inches and a bit difficult to maintain, but as soon as I made the first fatal cut, I knew I'd made a mistake. I'm guessing girlfriend. They don't seem to go for beards much. My girlfriend hadn't seen me without...

Unfortunately, I no longer have the beard. I'm growing it back though. I was very sad to lose it.

Re: Podcasts I like or don't like

Hmm I don't know if its really PC hate necessarily... For me the whole show is rather hit or miss, though the stories i really like i love; one being PodCastle Episode 54: The Dreaming Wind by Jeffery Ford... Oh, god yes. I love that story. PC is pretty hit-or-miss for me (50%) too, but I guess tha...

Re: Drabblecast 134- Bone Sigh by Tim Pratt

Really loved Bone Sigh, despite not being a horror fan. Constantly questioning the rationality of the narrator must be one of my joys in life. I will say that I think the narrator's murder of "the monster" qualifies as self-defense. Sure, the narrator broke into his house, but unless I missed someth...

Re: Concepts That Didn't Make It: DDR-DOS

Ah, good or DR-DOS and memories of the original Noob, Gary Kildahl, who lost the contract to sell his operating system to IBM, preferring to go golfing rather than meet with the IBM executives, who left in a huff when they found out he had left his assistant to handle the negotiations. It's always ...

Re: Concepts That Didn't Make It: DDR-DOS

Thanks!

I was aware DR-DOS back in the day, but mostly stuck to MS-DOS. Making batch files to implement a primitive version of user profiles in Win 3.1 was about as fancy as I got back then.

Wow, I loved the ending. Thinking of the struggle of good v. evil as a board game tickles my fancy.

Concepts That Didn't Make It: DDR-DOS

DDR-DOS was a command line OS you controlled with a DDR foot pad. Eight random letters were displayed at a time. If one you wanted came up, you hit the appropriate foot pad. Music played in blazing early-80s era PC-Speaker glory. The cocky kid at the local arcade mastered it and formatted your hard ...

Re: Podcasts I like or don't like

I'm a little surprised with the PodCastle hate. Fantasy isn't really my genre, so I figure if I love about 50% of their stories, they're doing really well. And that tends to be the ratio. Swamp's list is a really excellent one, but I'd add the hated "The Exit Sign." It's challenging, but it has the ...
