The Accident

They were going to change mankind forever. To reanimate dead cells, such that even after the moment of death a cure might yet be found for a given affliction? Nothing would be the same! Yet, that fateful night, an accident occurred. A barrier broke, safety precautions, though taken, proved insuffici...

Re: Just

yeah, stories based around a cultural reference do run the risk of missing people who weren't there for the original thing, i've made my peace with that, so fair play :)

and thanks! i liked that one too, and a great story for it to be attached to too, i really enjoyed the episode!

Remember that Radiohead song with the guy laying in the street? A crowd gathered and asked why, and when he told them they collapsed, paralyzed by the revelation. You know the one. I can’t tell you how many times I watched it, trying to figure out what he says at the end. Hundreds, easily. I saw it ...

The place is a powder keg. No, seriously, I’ve filled your home with gunpowder. I’ve also saturated the floors, walls and furniature in kerosene, because why not? If you’re going to do something, go all the way. Speaking of… …there we go. Now you’re covered in kerosene too. The slightest spark would...

The Nostalgia Files: Television

It was a monster hit, and no mystery why. A woman in Boulder, Colorado takes a pig, fresh from the farm, as a roommate, and hilarity ensues as it does it’s best to fit into human society. The clash of cultures was a goldmine of comedic possibility, a well that would never run dry. Yeah… By the third...

Neat! Now that's interesting!

Also: Squid comes up that much? Mental note to write more about squid!

Also also: Wait, I've got the second highest number of total drabbles on the 'cast? Neat! Absolutely unsurprised Nathan's crushing it, he's just incredibly good...

The Thief of Childhood

He was a monster, worse than an animal, skulking through the neighborhood and terrorizing the children. Stealing their innocence. Disgusting. He’d stalk his prey and, once no adult was watching, creep up on them, to whisper his poison into their innocent ears. “You’ll never be as well-off as your pa...

The Awakening of the Middle-Aged One

Beneath city streets I slumber, in my basement apartment, as I have done since before the time of dawn. Dreaming mad dreams of limitless, unchecked power, I await that moment when the time is right, when the portents are properly aligned, and when my alarm goes off, at which point shall I arise and ...

The Mask

The mask cost twelve dollars at Expo when we went in the spring. Well worth it. I took it home, put it on a shelf, and waited. Summer rolled on and into autumn, and once she’d forgotten we had the thing, I knew the time had come. I greeted her at the door as she got home from work, naked other than ...

Lovecraft (you'll never guess the theme)

Each episode, the ship sailed into port, picked up an assortment of celebrity guests, and took off on another romantic voyage. However, once at sea, things would inevitably go awry. Horribly awry. Lives would be threatened, indeed lost tragically, passengers would be driven mad and, in the end, no m...

Imprisonment

…when Calgary flooded, the Zoo had a plan. The big cats, for example, found housing in local prisons around town. I can’t stress enough to you that this was actually the plan for the big cats from our local zoo when Calgary flooded. Now, for a moment, imagine the flooding continued. Imagine prisons ...

She Loved the Attention

Whenever she got bored, she pretended narcolepsy. When unpleasant, awkward lulls arose in conversation, or topics no longer interested her, she’d collapse, just to throw some energy into the party. She hoped this would encourage us to be more interesting. Nothing could be further from the truth. Wit...

Dream Lover

“He’s the man of my dreams.” She told us, but none of us knew what the fuss was about. Gaunt and pale, with a shock of wild, ink-black hair, his presence struck us as off-putting. Otherworldly, as though he was somehow apart from what was going on around him. Still, he made her happy and that’s what...

Challenges (Good Samaritan themed)

Challenges are how we grow. Oh, nobody likes to suffer, nobody likes pain, nobody likes problems, but it’s the way we face these things that define who we are, and as such suffering, pain and problems are things we need even when we don’t want them. Into every life, after all, a little rain must fal...

I don’t watch the sun rise as much a I used to… When I worked graveyards the sun would be rising right as I got home for most of spring, and again in autumn, and I’d sit on the chair in front of my place with a beer, watching it. It was basically the best way in the world to relax after a day of wor...

Hitting the Road

Sometimes you’ve just got to get away. It might be work, or just the grind of your daily routine, but some part of you needs to mix things up, get out of your life a bit, take a break from what you know, from yourself, and when those times come you’ve got to hit the road, and damn the consequences. ...
