Fun, seemingly lighthearted, actually rather dark Drabble? Check.
Tim Pratt story? Check.
Fantastic soundtrack & production quality? Check.
Oddball narrator who nails the character? Check.
Outro that blew me away? Check.

Yep, this is Drabblecast.

Re: Drabblecast 179- The Red Bride by Samantha Henderson

I'm surprised about all the positive feedback. This may have been my least favorite Drabblecast to date. I found it dull and anti-climactic. I think I may also be biased against the narrative style. I *hate* when a story addresses the reader as if they were a character in the tale. I am not, despite...

Isn't it Park Place?

This may sound odd, but that was far and away the best reading of section headers I have ever heard. Super creepy ambient music was spot on as well.

P.S. I just posted my first ever Twit-Fic! Check it out.

I think they rebroadcasted the Starship Sofa recording. Or repodcasted, I suppose. Creative Commons-ed it? Is there a verb for that yet?

Anyway, I too loved Bridesicle.

Re: Drabblecast 174- The Fantasy Jumper by Will McIntosh

I was looking up the name of a story I heard over on Escape Pod that had an extremely similar "nice guy who aims low out of poor self-esteem and/or necessity." Turns out it was Bridesicle - written by Will McIntosh. Can someone go find Will, give him a hug and tell him that we like him just the way ...

"Mankind's passionate yearning to fly can be traced all the way back to the very first person ever to fall to their death from someplace high." And thus Norm value adds to another one of my days on Earth. I didn't even recognize the music until my second listen, great stuff. I don't follow twitter a...

Seriously, folks, what the heck is double math? It's such an odd way to end the story I'd imagine that the author considers it somewhat important, but I can't find any pop culture (or counter culture) reference to it.

So are you going to get a DRM takedown notice from the Nirvana people or the Weird Al Yankovic people first? So my only complaint with the story was that I couldn't put my finger on the characters ages. I put them at 17ish at first but casually cracking open beer on a Sunday seemed out of place for ...

Re: Drabblecast 172- Trifecta XIII

My reactions, in order: 1. Holy crap - Beer for My Horses! 2. I think that the Six Drabbles of Separation is not only a play on Six Degrees, but a description of the stories themselves. These are tales of actual separation due to divorce, death, secret knowledge or memory. Even in the final episode,...

It certainly would have been more interesting if Lewis Caroll had written the Cheshire Cat devouring the Queen of Hearts from the vagina out.

Interesting and maybe a little disturbing for younger readers.

That, and what do you really call one of those things, besides lil' Cthulhu? My favorite Saturday morning TV show. The musical numbers were at least as good as Animaniacs. Was anyone else a little uncomfortable with how much Irizarry's accusation that captains and station masters intentionally igno...

*considers knitting a Mongoose plushie* My new band name (once I get musical talent and a band) is definitely "Exploratory Octopus." Excellent production, great reading by everyone. I loved Colonel Sanderson, the SS/Spanish Inquisition officer with a heart of gold. Or the incomprehensible ferocity ...

I can't believe you're making me wait a week for part 2! My measure of the quality of any serialized entertainment is my level of disappointment at the prospect of the episode ending. When I watch tv shows or read books, I recognize the great ones as much by the severity of my "dammit, I have to wa...

Fantastic Story! I actually listened to it twice in a row because the story was told so well and and the narration was fantastic. Creepy but not to creepy. I also listened to it twice, but that was because Norm's grizzled Southerner voice makes me sleepy. This is the one where you should have blown...

I don't know, I wish that there had been more of the story. It fell a little bit short for me for some reason. Amen. I would love to see this featured as the first serialized Drabble. Oh hell yea, that was an awesome drabble! Going to play that one for the peeps at work. One of my favorites in a long time. I think that I'm going to steer clear of the Drabble section of the forums from now on. Even the ones that don't make the cut are pretty impressive, but Norm's reading of this...
