I thought I could hold it, but when I reached the bathroom it was too late; the baby alligator’d already slipped my hands.

Tim loved meat pies, until he woke up one morning to feel the hot crust of a buttery pastry shell against his burning back.

Re: Red Spots on White Snow

My first thought on reading the title was an old folk tale I read where several brothers were out hunting. One shoots a rabbit, and the brothers agree that the contrast of the red blood on the white snow is the complexion of the perfect woman. They really liked them pale back in the day.

And he's delivered over 4000 babies,so he knows his stuff. How many babies has Cthulu delivered? I thought so. Yeah, but he's got Shub Niggurath as his running mate, so that kind of evens out. Goat of a thousand young and all. I mean, once you're already into four digits the difference between one ...

The Turtle Undergoes Male Pattern Baldness

I saw the creeping reduction in my pet turtle before he did, of course: the thinning in the mottled oval of jade green shell which would eventually reduce his back to a toilet seat cover shape. There wasn’t anything we could do. They don’t make Rogaine for turtles. But I tried it anyway, the Rogaine...

Tenth Circle of Hell

In Hell, pizza is made by the imps, whose gruesome senses of humor lead to toppings such as severed ears, pigs’ blood, and fingernails. But the crust is crisp and buttery; the sauce, herbed and fragrant; the mozzarella, amazing. And it’s delivered quickly by the succulent succubi, and smells sooooo ...

Re: Drabblecast 212 - Ancient Engines

So I guess I'm not adding anything new by mentioning the Asimov story in episode 200? This wasn't bad, but it didn't tread any new ground and was kind of a letdown so close to "The last Question". Even though this one viewed the whole eternity thing through the lens of synethetic humans and advances...

Re: Drabblecast 211 - At the End of the Hall

One thing I've got to say this story highlighted the problem of what people say to people who are sick or dying, how everything sounds like an empty platitude. And that makes me think how much empty platitudes make up such a high percentage of relationships, and how difficult it is to be honest and...

Fights Tough Stains

He hurriedly added bleach, fabric softener and detergent; double helpings of each. Then he slammed the lid shut, turned one dial to “heavy duty” and the other to “extra-hot.” The washing machine thrummed and churned as if trying to free itself, yanking at its wires like a chained beast. He sat throu...

Re: Drabblecast 207 - Pinion

I was kinda "meh" on this one. The whole guilt and redemption thing only works with close emotional proximity to the protagonist, which I feel we don't have. Yes, we have his history, but nothing really resonates from that other than a sort of vague depression and that fact that he's feeling his age...

The transmission on the submarine’s radio was like someone trying to speak with a mouthful of tinfoil. “What do they want?” demanded the captain. I shrugged. Had no more idea than anyone else did, even though I’d spent the past three days listening to them speak and breathe. “Keep listening.” Three ...

Funeral for a Drabble

We all brought bricks on the day we buried the drabble, who had no more weight than a fly but insisted on being put out to sea, strung to something heavy to bring him down. And there was father with a disheveled tie, letting mother do the work of pinching the tiny body between two fingers and slippi...
