Small Problem at the 89th Annual Mad Scientists's Picnic

With all of us now an inch tall and stuck in the same tub of cole slaw, the 89th Annual Mad Scientists Picnic was officially ruined. Nobody had ducked the shrink ray. Everybody was furious. Guess I shouldn’t have brought it along for laughs. Guilt tugged at my stomach as surely as mayo sucked at my ...

Re: Post your Twitfic Twabbles Here! (General Content)

Once, I didn't peel the label off a can when I recycled it... :? :( ... You're supposed to do this? I've never done this. Wonder if I should be worried. Then again my apartment complex didn't even have a recycling program until last year. We threw out a lot of stuff with that tiny stylized triangle...

Re: Drabblecast 202 / 203 - Boojum

Not bad. I had pretty much the same reaction to this as I had to Mongoose. The second halves of each sort of just dribbled off. I think it's just the problem inherent in having to break up a story like this. Expectations might not be so heavy if there wasn't a big wait in the middle.

Posted this on to my Twitter feed a little while ago but the formatting kind of ruined it.

“Gentlemen, we’ve a new element: Micronium!”
The scientists gasped.
“Now on your knees. It fell into the goddamn rug.”

That was brilliant.

“Snatch the pebble from my hARGH!”

The master looked to his now truncated arm.

The novice shrugged. “Okay, so what now?”

Krinkin's Woods

“Ye fool. Know where ye trespass?” spat the razor-toothed goblin from his perch in the oak tree. “Tell me, foul creature,” said the traveler. “Ye be in monster Krinkin’s woods!” “Is that so?” “Krinkin be vicious!” “Mm-hm.” “And he eats a toll of blood!” The goblin pounced. A lump of pain stuck sudde...

But still not profit. Guess she meant revenue. I noticed it too, but wasn't really bothered by it. Enjoying this one so far, even more than Mongoose. Feels like we're getting into the action a lot faster. And I just realized that Monette wrote one of my favorite stories the Drabblecast has ever don...

Give a man a fish and he eats for a day.

Teach a man to fish; he eats for a lifetime.

Turn a man into a fish, and you eat for a day.

Broke. Alone. Homeless. I began selling pencils from a mug.

Then I ran out of pencils.

I can’t even write my suicide note.

Re: Salmon

I'm glad that the sentiment came through, which is more important to it than the plot now that I think about it. Looking back, I guess the original incarnation was buried under a lot of "this happened, then that happened."

The Unknown

“What’s that?” I cried. “I don’t know,” Jane said fearfully. It lurched uncertainly towards us: shuddering sideways, diagonal, backwards, but somehow always closer. I can’t describe it. It never seemed to have the same shape from one second to another. I think. “What do we do?” Jane shrieked. “I don...

Re: Drabblecast 200 - The Last Question by Isaac Asimov

One last thought on the topic of Norm's voice: I think the major change came when he stopped referring to himself as "Norman." Norman is polysyllabic and formal. Norm is short and rhymes with "warm". It's kind of avuncular (thought I doubt Norm is old enough to be anyone's uncle). Norman is someone ...

Re: Drabblecast 200 - The Last Question by Isaac Asimov

Listening to the intro to Drabblecast #1 takes me back... only a few months because I listened to it for the first time last year while perusing the archives. But still. Norm's voice has gone from supernerd to relatively smooth. As I've only listened to Drabblecasts 1-10 and then 140+, I'd like to i...

She swims across the ceiling, weightless, wrapped in hair that glows pinkish-gold. She looks out the window at the silver moon. “What are you thinking about?” he asks from his sleeping bag. She has no furniture. No need. Hasn’t slept in years. “I wish we lived higher.” “We’re close enough,” he says,...

Not bad, but nothing that really left me wanting more. "Fiddleback Ferns" and "The Difficulties of Evolution" just didn't strike a chord in me. maybe once I'm a mother they will. (Well, actually that'd require some serious advances in gender reassignment surgery and uterus transplants and so forth. ...

Re: The Least Delicious Nut

Yech. Closest thing to that that's ever happened to me was a bottle of Sprite that was suspiciously unbubbly when I opened it up. Tasted like seltzer water without the carbonation.

I imagine something with milk in it was much, much worse of an experience. :?
