Re: Drabblecast 223 - Bearing Fruit

This one teetered close to the edge of "too wordy" but, I think, managed to avoid tipping over. A fun story, though! Although in retrospect one wonders about the ethics of employing... hrm... ripe... fruit in this manner

Re: Drabblecast 220 - Trifecta XVIII

I enjoyed all these stories but "A Happy Family" had me laughing out loud! It was wonderfully odd and the ending just capped it all off. Well read, too - I loved the subtle emphasis on the word "boot" each time. Fantastic!

Re: Drabblecast 212 - Ancient Engines

I think I ate a paper napkin or two, never a cloth napkin. This might be because I never had access to cloth napkins as a kid--the first time I went to a restaurant with cloth napkins I knew I'd taken a step up in society. :P My dog has eaten at least two handkerchiefs. How do I know? Best not inqu...

Sorry, couldn't resist. ;-)

Re: Drabblecast 212 - Ancient Engines

...even though I know I shouldn't enjoy it so much because it isn't "good writing" but reading Lovecraft accustomed me to it and made me fond of the format: a story in which all the action/big ideas are recounted by a narrator in what is essentially a monologue or a dialogue... Is this some kind of...

Re: Drabblecast 211 - At the End of the Hall

Regarding Connor -- I was listening to this on the train this morning. I had a very hard time stifling my laughter so's my fellow passengers didn't think I was deranged.

Re: Drabblecast 209 - Babyhead

Well. That certainly put the "strange" into "strange stories." Quite unsettling.

Connor's accent -- now where is he from? Can't quite decide whether he's from Birmingham (that's UK, folks) or Sydney (that's... well you oughta know that one).

Re: Drabblecast 202 / 203 - Boojum

Oh. Man. That was fantastic. I'd read the first part but not the second and I wasn't disappointed with the tie-up! Sure, you could figure out what was going to happen but if it's done well, that doesn't matter so such to me. And boy, was this done well. Much more of a slow build than "Mongoose" but ...

Re: Drabblecast 202 / 203 - Boojum

I'm not much of a Star Trek fan, but the Boojum reminded me of an episode of Star Trek the Next Generation; I think it was called "Gumshoo" or something like that. That's "Tin Man" and yes, there certainly are echoes of that here. And several other places I imagine :-) "Tin Man" was Starfleet's cod...

Re: Drabblecast 202 / 203 - Boojum

In Mongoose the authors strongly imply that Boojums operate on some sort of reality-bending principle that weakens the universe, allowing reavers and bandersnatches through. However by this story's details so far it would appear that they're just big space-swimming extraterran animals/beings, witho...

Re: Drabblecast 200 - The Last Question by Isaac Asimov

Forgot to say: I like all the art pieces done for this one but that first one is just friggin' awesome. It captures that first piece of the story really well and suggests the hugeness of the computer in a way that's in keeping with the story, yet has a modern vibe. The swirls could be evolved ribbon...

Re: Drabblecast 200 - The Last Question by Isaac Asimov

I'm really curious as to what Norm's done to/with his voice since that first episode -- better mic? Better technique? Surgery? I hardly recognised it. Ah, Asimov. Heavy on the exposition, big ol' punch right at the end. Nice. I'm kinda surprised no-one's commented on the size of the computers in the...

Re: DC 170 & 171- Mongoose by Sarah Monette and Elizabeth Be

Really late to the party here, folks but -- wow. What a <expletive> fantastic story! I've not heard a (sci-fi) story so good in quite a while. And of course, the top-notch production makes it even better. The interesting thing to me is that collaborations can often end up pretty bland, sort of a com...

Re: Drabblecast 168- Route Nine by Samantha Henderson

HIya folks. Just had to stop by 'n' sign up to the boards to say how fantastic this story was! Wow. Very high creep factor, just wonderful stuff. I'm slowly crawling through the Drabblecast back catalogue and just about every ep I hear makes me more of a fan.
