The Walrus Next Door

A man, his girlfriend, and a wounded walrus just moved into the condo next door. How do I know the walrus is wounded, you ask? Because no normal functioning walrus would ever sound like that, trust me. Each night I listen through the walls to the creature's relentless bellowing; the frenzied huffing...

Re: Drabblecast 319 – Trifecta XXVII

Hah, in the unedited footage you would have heard me ask how many people knew what a podcast was/listened to podcasts and about five people in the crowd of about 30-40 raised their hands. There was also some lengthy banter between a drunk clueless guy in the audience who kept raising his hand to ask...

The polarization continues! Some good writing/thoughts/discussion on this story from Cory Doctorow, Jake Kerr http://nofsgiven.wordpress.com/2014/03/ ... equations/

Modern dance production of Ramsey Shehadeh's "Creature"

Had no idea this existed. Pretttttttty weird (but hey, it's modern dance. and hey, this is drabblecast).

This was apparently choreographed and performed at NEIU in Chicago a couple years ago.

Re: Beaver butts emit goo used in vanilla flavored foods

FDA approved! Although apparently industry consumption is only at like 300 lb's a year, whereas synthetics like vanillan are over 2.6 million pounds. Apparently it's easier to just have scientists make sweetener in a lab rather than convince them to squeeze it from a beaver's ass. Still, it's only l...

Interesting that so many of you thought the MC was a female. Would have thought that being read by a male (me!) would have snuffed out any doubt.

Re: Drabblecast 300 – Bloodchild

it was good stuff, but on some level I'd prefer more than acceptance of reality as the climax. I'd like to see change or some members of either species considering different ways to co-exist. I feel like she presented impregnation and pregnancy both as things forced on the main character (in some s...

Re: Drabblecast 300 – Bloodchild

I couldn't quite shake the idea of Octavia Butler as Crazy Eyes in Orange is the New Black . That probably wouldn't have been the case if Norm had not introduced her as a black lesbian. My feeling that the story idea was bound up in her sexuality was pretty much reinforced by her own comments. For ...

I did the Shatner nods in Nougat Nozzles of Neptune, one of the trilogy we did in space adventure style in Key's sponsorship. 265 or 266 I think.

Re: Bsides 28 – TGIF

I got inspiration for this at Worldcon this year when I was at a table right next to George R.R. Martin and 5 or 6 of his fangirls late one night at a hotel bar. For whatever reason the tipsy 20-somethings all became distracted and started systematically singing the theme songs to every 90's sitcom ...

Haha, so, I read weird stories into a mic and write songs about nipples. When it comes to anything else (including techy computer/internet stuff and/or folding my clothes correctly) I delegate. In other words, no I did not mess with Varda's whatchya-ma-call-it cuz I have no clue how to even do that....

Re: Drabblecast 289 – The Cold Equations

Yah, and this was a heavily blogged about story too. I knew it would be controversial-- it's always been one of the most controversial stories in SF and while that's not the only reason I picked it, I thought that new generations of ears should hear it.
