Drabblecast 017 - Morton

Morton by Adam Carvin

So... I was listening to back episodes of the Drabblecast. I listened again to Episode 17- Morton.

Wow. So... Adam. After 10 minutes of pure disgust towards Morton, I'm guessing somebody inspired this story. Anybody in particular? Anybody here?
You're my quasi-ichthian angel, you're my half-amphibian queen...

Shouldn't be to hard to figure out. Just follow the trail of Anime Porn.

Yah, I'm going through archives and just heard this, thought it was one of the grosser/funny stories so far. Farting, onion ring eating, chocolate milk drinking asshole being granted ultimate power... I wonder if Bush has a collection of anime porn?

Also liked Metamorphosis of Phosphorescent Avenger and Norm's story Guardians. The afterword/story continuation after the episode's closing music was over, a neat twist on a twist. More Norm stories here and there could be cool.

An under-appreciated classic. I know its nepotistic, but I liked it when there was more Carvin content in the stories.

This one was quite good!

At points it seemed to drag on a bit, with the neverending descriptions of hate, but the ending wouldn't have been what it was without all that buildup. *shudder*

You just reviewed 4 episodes in one day. That's a lot of ketchup.

Ah, I see what you mean. :) Yup, I'm working my way through the thread archives. I'm not sure what I'll do with that time when I get caught up, I listen to quite a few podcasts, but most of the related forums besides this one and the Escape Artists casts are either pretty dead, or at some of them all the people who comment are one-time commenters who don't interact with other commenters. And those forums just aren't that much fun to visit.

Maybe I'll use the time to try to write some drabbles in the Drabble section instead. :D

We need to put a gun to Norm's head and tell him to step up his output, until we succeed in training the Taliban to grow episodes in eastern Afghanistan.

Or we could put out more Dribblecast episodes.

Self replication is definitely an evolutionary advantage.

But what do we do with the Taliban?

That's a question many people would like the answer to.

Was hoping it would be an unreliable narrator - that it would turn out that the narrator was just crazy. Cuz that level of hate seems.... Unhealthy.

I'm going to make a confession. There are a couple of people, among the thousands I have known, who remind me of Morton, and who therefore cause me to identify with the narrator, even while fully acknowledging that it is unhealthy. Their purpose in life seems to be to exponentially magnify our own shortcomings.

Some people can handle poison ivy without being affected. Beekeepers hardly notice bee stings. Other people go into anaphylactic shock. There is a certain moral exercise in having this very person being chosen by God to receive superhuman powers of wish fulfilment. A miraculous cure for irony poor blood.

I have seldom seen a character depicted so nauseatingly. Props for that.

Yeah... I guess if I went back through my life, there are probably some people I have irrationally hated. I usually assume it's just a conflict of personality, though, and not something intrinsically bad about that person.

But then I'm a moral/values relativist, so I don't tend to believe in intrinsic bad or good at all.

Yes, I can certainly see why Morton would challenge that belief.
