Drabblecast 244 - Doubleheader XI

Feature: Nora's Thing by Will Ludwigsen
Feature: Endless Encore by Will Ludwigsen

It had rolled and tumbled, whatever it was, gelatinous and tentacled, from lake to canal to stream. People watched from the shore, following it with opera glasses and sea telescopes. Some thought it was a squid, others an octopus, others still just a glob of fatty flesh from some aquatic animal long torn apart and rotten. It was milky and translucent with tiny red hooks lining the each of its sixteen flacid arms. Deep blue bruises speckled the skin, wrinkling in like spots on a tomato. It had no visible eyes…

First time ever I paused the Drabblecast to comment on the first story of the doubleheader. Nora's Thing may be my all-time favorite. I love the idea. It is only in dying that we are born to eternal life. Death is the ultimate healing. [This must be the ultimate zombie heresy].
I like Will Ludwigsen!

Well, Endless Encore seals the deal. A combination of the best story, voicing, music and art, including author's epilogue. Including Twabble! If Will Ludwigsen visits to read these comments, I'd love to know his impression of your production of his work. My impression is that his contemplative storywriting really syncopates with the Drabblecast style, and the addition of audio-visual features adds an entirely new dimension to the story.
Ya'll should definitely think about how to take advantage of this synergy.

More!

Dear god...

I'm on it, I have a reason to re-open the file. And I may make some touch-up's while I'm there. I have the excuse - never stop picking the scab. Never!

I have set up for mp3 format play. But now that we have upgraded the importance of the intra-episode art, I'm having trouble getting mp4 to play. I try through the iTunes downloader, and see the art under the chapter headings, but they don't appear on the display.
I know we've answered technical problems such as this is the past. Is there any way these could be addressed in a FAQ for Dummies? I need to see the pictrues.

(20 minutes later)

I downloaded QuickTime, and there ya go.
Never mind.

However, if you think we may have a potential fan base subset even dumber than me... nah.

So, Will also wrote Singularity Knocks (229)and Whit Carlson's Trespasser (231).
Also enjoying his website http://www.will-ludwigsen.com/

Let me not forget to mention big thumbs up for RE Chambliss' voicing (she did Orange, #218) and Bo's haunting cover.

Nora's Thing--Definitely an interesting premise, but it felt like the story just kind of trailed off with an ellipsis instead of ending with an exclamation point. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but it didn't have quite the impact I thought it could've. I'm glad the girl didn't die and got her chance at a full life.

Endless Encore--I liked this one, trying to figure out whether the man in the well was someone she knew. Messed-up children make some of the best horror. Poor guy has to watch this same damned play over and over and over again, all as she makes it clear she's not going to tell anyone about him because she's been told to stop imagining fairy well people.

Is it clear who the two sets of bones belong to?

Excellent set! Really good Drabblecast fare. Keep 'em coming!

I had previously read "Endless Encore" but it really came to life here. I Love Will's postcard stories and felt a great sense of loss when he redesigned his site and took most of them down. Looks like the cream of the crop are making their way into the spotlight. They are perfect for this program. Love it! Great production guys.

It definitely was. Superb execution of the well(over?)-trodden, Poe-ian last-minute-Black-Cat-reveal-trope. Here is the key to it's beauty for me- I didn't see it coming a mile off! Even when the wooden bones turned up. Fantastic stuff!
