Whatever you do, don’t call me Ishmael.

Don’t call me anything at all. Give me my pint of piss-poor ale and leave me be in this yellowed corner where men relieve themselves when they are too lazy to make three extra stumbling steps to the streets of Nantucket. I am done. Finished. Come to this hole to die—and if you insist on speaking to me, I’ll find a deeper hole than this dying excuse of a whaling town can offer…

I remember hearing J.E.'s take on The Sea Gods on the Dribblecast and thinking "Cool!"

It's neat to hear how someone takes something you've written and then shapes it into something with life and depth.

Always gets me a bit self-conscious when I'm recording my own material and just go through the motions with that stupid typewriter loop. SLACKER! Heh.

Maybe hearing it again in at the adult's table will nudge me into putting some time and effort into the daily feed at 100WS?

... ... ... NAH! ;)

Thanks,

Nobody else commenting? This one had me from the first line.

I remember having to trudge my way through Moby Dick in my senior year. It was like receiving a heaping plate full of brussel sprouts. In small quantities, they're really not that bad, but after a while it's a mechanical shovel 'em in, grind 'em down, swallow. Not even anything to chase 'em down. But I digress.

Loved the alternate take on M.D. Loved the atmosphere. Loved it.

It seems so obvious in hindsight, a Cthulhu reworking of Moby Dick, and it works so well. (And Lovecraft was, no doubt, strongly influenced by that classic story.)

Loved the story and the narrator's voice and style seemed to fit the character perfectly.

~~~
At first the twabble was kind of okay. But then I realized that it fit the theme nicely. A wrecked vessel and a, Dick is an appropriate term, sacrificing innocents (or the future of (some) mankind) for his sorry purpose.
Ab.So.Lute.Ly. AWESOME.
The story had me from the first line, and the depth of the descriptions and prose carried me from there. Graeme's reading ground the tale into the cobblestones of the Nantucket streets. Great job all around.
Rock on. Great episode, from the commentary to the drabble, twabble, and of course the main story. Fantastic all around!
(Did anybody understand the last line of the main story?)
You're my quasi-ichthian angel, you're my half-amphibian queen...
The Dribblecast, we don't care if you sound like an idiot.
Shhh! One must not attempt to apply overmuch reason to Lovecraftian stories!
Anywho, the line is a callback/homage/mockery of the last lines of Yeats' poem, The Second Coming:
Some old, dead, white guy wrote:The darkness drops again but now I know
That twenty centuries of stony sleep
Were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle,
And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?
Which, of course, alludes to the Democrat Party modus operandi various bits of the King James Bible.
Good thing you knew that so I didn't need to memorize Yeats.
That was one excellent story! "Lovecraft + x" stories have been around a while, they started with his friends while Lovecraft was still alive; but they are always a chancy read. Quite often they are unmitigated, if well intentioned crap. "I Only Am Escaped to Tell Thee" is easily the best Lovecraft + short story ever.
