Drabblecast 270 – The First Conquest Of Earth

Feature: The First Conquest of Earth by David W. Goldman

When the alien fleet was first sighted just beyond the asteroid belt, end-of-the-world riots broke out in cities around the globe. But when astronomers calculated that the huge, silent ships would take nearly three weeks to reach Earth, all but the most committed rioters felt their enthusiasm wilt. By the end of the day they’d all dropped their bricks or bats and slunk home, plundered consumer electronics in hand, muttering about the aliens’ apparent lack of urgency...

That was a great episode. The voice of the alien... brilliant.

This story turned out to be really good, but I had to listen to it twice. The reveal was a bit too subtle to overcome the anticipatory thought threads in my mind, and just left me confused the first time. I wonder if I would have had the same trouble with a printed version, with the ready ability to flip between the three time periods.

This is my first comment here, so if anyone can tell me about important posting conventions or rules, particularly regarding reaction to specific spoiler-y story elements, I'd appreciate that.

We don't have much of an issue with spoilers, IMO. Most people see these threads after hearing the podcast.
But, if you want to be sure, and polite about it, just use the handy Spoiler button:

1, 2, 5!

Great episode. All parts were gud. Dusty was too close to his mic, but otherwise has a great showing. Really good Drabblecast fare!

Reminded me of The Mouse That Roared on an interplanetary scale. I liked.

That was a lot of fun. :) I like the idea of conquest turning out to be more of a pain-in-the-ass than anything. I wonder if Constantine XI felt this way before the Roman Empire started to finally collapse in on itself. Anyone who'se played Risk knows this: mo' territories, mo' problems yo.
