Not wanting to be pedantic, (Yeah, right... Who am I kidding?) but in the Wells original, HM Brit Army uses big field guns, 12 pounders and so on, and they just bounce off the Martian machines. These guys managed to manhandle their gun up into the clock tower, so it can't have been a very big gun, perhaps one of those lightweight mountain howitzers, and it was also at least 20 years older than any of the guns that would have been being used around London, and yet the ball went straight through the Martian!
Really!?
This is like Sicily again isn't it? Where the American troops took their half of the island quicker than the British because the Brits were fighting against German Veterans while you Yanks only had to deal with unenthusiastic Italians who had already been 'Spoken to' by Lucky Luciano's mates.
It's always easier when the enemy isn't all that tough!
Only kidding, guys.
Incidentally, was I the only one who spotted the reference to The War In The Air in there?
Putting the cannon on the upper story of a building?
Hmmm..?
That's how the New Yorkers shot down one of the German airships, remember?
DON'T tell me you haven't read it!
All that said, (And it's nice to have it off my chest, I can tell you!) It was a nice, engaging and entertaining story. I actually did like it.
Honest!
When are they making the movie?
The truth may be out there, but lies are inside your head.
