Paradigm Shift

Driving into Austin today I listened to political talk on XM Radio.

On the left Dave Marsh said that the Democrats sold us out to big insurance. On the right Mike Church said that the Republican Party is in on it too. These statements don't surprise me. People are finally starting to wake up.

Those with money and power are only interested in bleeding us dry. Then they can buy us out for pennies.

Left versus Right. They distract us by keeping us fighting among ourselves.

The sun is setting on America. It's the dawn of a new Chinese millennium.

This doesn't seem like a story. Maybe an op-ed.

If they can "buy us out for pennies", I wish they would! Right now, they're spending thousands per person and tens of thousands per taxpayer. :x

My own SWAG is that if the forces of decency lose the war (we ain't licked yet), then after the massive kill-offs, the world will be in a very nasty dark age -- at least until the singularity (if that happens at all).

The Chinese might be the largest surviving political unit, but they will probably not dominate the coming nightmare.

Story, op-ed, insight, prediction... What's the difference?

A Story has: Characters; narrative; and an arc which includes: introduction, objective, conflict, climax, and resolution. It "tells a tale".

An op-ed lays out opinions, and sometimes facts, with little or no narrative. Some op-eds can be or contain stories, sure. But this one was not a story, hence not technically a drabble.

This is a little like pornography, for me, I know enough to recognize it when I see it, but perhaps not enough to explain it to an alien observer.

That being said, I really don't have much objection to this particular op-ed. But, It didn't contain anything new and does repeat one leftist lie. That is: for all their many, MANY faults, the Republicans are not the same -- nor as bad -- as the Democrats. Still, neither party represents the American people nor consistently upholds any sort of just principles.

I take it then that you didn't believe that this is fictional.

Well, regardless, enough politics. They are pretty universally depressing and the worse part is that people in general aren't bright enough to recognize when they are being serviced. So back to the happy, happy fantasy world of H.P. Lovecraft and his Weird Stories. :)

It sure didn't seem fictional. And congratulations! If you punk'd me, I still don't see (or much care) how. 8)

Naw I didn't punk you. Though there was a speculative element to the drabble and that's where the fictional part comes in.
