“The Rapture! It’s finally here!” Rachel thought as she was being sucked out of her SUV and into the heaven bound beam. Spinning and playing in the warm shimmering light she failed to notice that her foot had knocked the steering wheel causing the behemoth to veer wildly onto the sidewalk and onto the stroller that still held the small, sleeping infant.

She had reached a height of seventy feet or so when the light suddenly vanished as if God had flipped a switch. “Death’s not fair either,” she thought as she plummeted toward the damnation of fire and brimstone.
The floggings will continue until morale improves.

 Nice. Vaguely dark and understated. I'm not sure how I feel about the line "death's not fair either." The sentiment is right, but after her joy in the first line at the coming of the rapture, her disappointment seems a bit understated.
