The Device

Post by ChicagoMike » Fri Mar 05, 2010 9:06 am

My first attempt at a drabble:

Dawson sat in the physics lab, chewing on his pen cap. “But wouldn’t that violate the first law of thermodynamics?” he protested.
“No, the device would draw energy from parallel universes,” Clark explained, “so the total energy of the multiverse remains constant.”
“Then you can get infinite energy?”
“In theory.”
“So what happens to the inhabitants of these universes you’re stealing from? I mean, I’d be pretty mad if some jerk from another dimension was driving my universe towards premature entropic heat death.”
“Yeah, but what are they going to do about it?” retorted Clark, before flashing out of existence.

Let me know your thoughts!

Amusing.

btw, this very idea was covered in Isaac Asimov's "The Gods Themselves"

A classic. (It didn't have the witty ending.)

Keep on drabbling, and a most hearty welcome to these here, hear, hare, forums... (I enjoyed Death of a Linguist, as well, Munsi...)
