The Vanity Publisher

Post by Hatching Phoenix » Tue May 25, 2010 10:44 pm

The phone rang.
"Hello?"
"Good mornin'," chirped a voice. "Is this the author of the nee- nah, necro..." she struggled.
"This is he."
"My name is Mercy Lou Hart, calling from American Harvest Publishing."
"What can I do for you?"
"We're an independent P.O.D. self publishing company," she began. "You write self help books, is that right?"
"I catalog the unknowable darkness beyond sanity."
"More of a new-age market, then?"
"My work is somewhat controversial,"
"Nothing wrong with that. Controversy sells, right? Are you ready to see your name in print Mr. Hazred? Is that correct?"
"Please, call me Al."

:D Nice.

I think this one may have a prerequisite of a slightly-more-than-casual awareness of the Cthulhu mythos and certain scam POD schemes (not all publish on demand is a scam, but some of it definitely is).

I was a little worried that this one would be a bit obscure.

Around here it's not so obscure. I pretty much had it when you got to necro....

Oh yeah. I'm not saying it's too obscure for the DC Forum, but it's bound to be lost on a few here and there. For instance, I only know about Al-Hazred because of an academic presentation I listened to.

Gotta laugh. The ad banner over this dribble is for Tate Publishing.
