Makes Us Dumber

Post by Ed Woychowsky » Mon Jun 07, 2010 5:49 pm

The speaker rose before the audience and after a brief applause he began; “As a people we have a rich oral tradition stretching back generations. What these outsiders propose, however, will belittle that tradition.”

Clearing his throat he continued; “As good as they claim their new method of communication is, it will as a people, make us poorer, dumber. Because, no discipline or research skills are required, the information is at their very fingertips. Conveying information in this manner will only make us lazy and dumber. Thank you.”

The speaker sincerely hoped that his people would reject the written word.

And belittle it it did. With all the braincells required to memorize all knowledge, homo sapiens was on its way to a capacity for omniscience. The Written word popped the brain capacity bubble at the worst possible time, dumping overvalued thoughts onto the market. The short sellers in talk radio cleaned up.

*Ed Woychowsky, huh? I want to ask Liz whether this is pronounced anything like 'Wowsky'. Anyway, keep 'em coming!

This popped into my head when I saw that Nicholas Carr wrote a book. The guy is clueless.

Actually, it's pronounced why-chow-ski, I think it translates to horse thief.

Mine is Carvin. Translates to 'cheap wine'. In native tongues, 'Thunder Bird'.
