War and Peace and Waterfowl

Post by bell » Mon Jun 28, 2010 1:40 am

In honor of the Evil Duck series on Drabblecast, and homage to Tolstoy himself:

The drakes moved, wingtip-to-wingtip, their beaks clacking, over the bridge in a dense mass. Underneath, the river swirled; above, living waves of mallards, Muscovies, Pochards surged across, their webbed feet slapping against the mud.

They took the city like water percolating through sand, spread irresistibly in all directions. They entered in good order, quacking in unison, but within minutes of arrival they no longer formed an army. They were a mob of marauders, their aim no longer to conquer, but to kill or rape, or both, in that order. No hen was left unmolested; nor ewe, nor sow, nor heifer.
