Identity

Post by munsi » Sun Sep 05, 2010 3:16 pm

There’ve been times where I’ve wondered: What am I?

Does identity require bodily continuity? Without physical form, would I simply cease? Or is there fundamental “self”-ness that exists beyond form, independent of body, that exists past passing.

I never called it soul, or spirit, since I wasn’t even sure it existed. But I did, in odd reflective moments, wonder.

Now, floating high above the accident, staring down at the twisted remains of the car that contains my own twisted remains, I’m no closer to an answer. If I had a voice, I’d laugh.

Because I no longer feel like me…

Boy, I like this one.

Sometimes it seems like folks don't think about this, accept in a religious context about which they have preconceptions. Those prejudices can cause a kind of denial of what we can actually see and know: that self-awareness is a lot more than a physical extention of the Natural.

Yes, its wonder that causes me to feel in my gut that there is a purpose behind it.

Now, if I begin with the conviction that there cannot be a purpose behind it, I am going to conclude that 'wonder' is a mere electrical impulse in the dust of which we are made, no different really than the lightning in the clouds.

In a wonderful way, a very spiritual drabble.

Thanks!

I'd like to think that life does extend beyond death, but ti does make one contemplate. Kind of makes me think of episode 149...

This drabble is a really articulate expression of a difficult and interesting concept. Nicely done.
