--cide

Post by HJfiction » Sun May 06, 2012 4:09 am

My guitar is out of tune so I put it in its case and let it rest on the floor of the porch, the remaining silence overwhelming, but welcomed. The faint “hoo-hoo” of an owl is heard. I listen for another, only to hear the shrieks of a pack of coyotes fresh off a kill down by the river. I sit, pondering my own life, and wonder if I’m the rabbit or the coyote. I notice the spade and pitchfork against the barn door. My eyes shifted over to the garden, then to the wedding band I need to discard.

I get the picture.

So if it's the intended clue, my guess is the spade is for digging the grave in the garden, the pitchfork was the murder weapon.
But I puzzle over why he wonders whether he is the rabbit or the coyote. The coyote certainly knows he is not the rabbit.

Unless, perhaps, he has buried the rabbit, and the coyote has eaten his wife.

Yeah, I dunno. I'm trying to get the hang of this horror thing, but I'm more adept at rural scenes, so I try to mix them and the coyote thing was just an addition from one of the things that's more natural in my writing.
