The Secret Laboratory of Professor Heitzel-Asshole Samaritan

Post by eric_marsh » Mon Jun 04, 2012 4:00 pm

"I realize that it may be cruel," Professor Heitzel said, "but nature is also cruel. While there will be suffering I believe that my discovery will lead us to a bright new future. And you will have the honor of leading the way."

I struggled at my bonds but to no avail. I could only make muffled sounds through the gag.

"There's a historical precedent you know," the professor continued as he inserted a hypodermic needle into the vial. "It was only after the Black Plague that a middle class became possible. Just think of it as tough love."

The title gives away the punchline.

Yeah, I thought of that. It's a good line which is why I used it. I should come up with another one.

It has kind of a B movie feel to it so I gave it a title that would fit that feel.

This drabble reminds me of a conversation I had many years ago (in my early 20's) with a couple friends of mine. They were both expounding on the idea that nothing would be better for the planet than a nice super-virus that would wipe out 99% of the population.

This conversation might bother me today, since one of those friends now holds two Ph.D's (in biology and chemistry) and works in a leading genetic research firm while the other participant in the conversation has a Ph.D. in biochemistry.)

Fortunately, both of them took the "screw the planet" route and generated some offspring, so I think they back on Team-Human.

Yeah, I like the new title. It says nothing and everything.

If they also had the secret cure that would give them a leg up in the world of tomorrow.

I read your Drabble for the first time last night and naturally thought of it again when I saw this:

Super creeps-ville, man. And I didn't get the reference to the title so nothing was given away for me.
