The Cats in the Walls [Lovecraft Tribute Month]

Post by UmbrageOfSnow » Sat Aug 04, 2012 5:25 am

The fools say I've inherited Grampa's terrible hunger: Boston fishstick eating champion, ten years running. The cheater. Mom's fishmonger parents thought Dad would ruin them. "That's not how genetics works," Mom said. She was right. But I'm still not allowed alone in the shop.

I used to ask customers about the hideous purring all around us. "It's called refridgeration," they'd say, backing away slowly. Cowards! Liars!

Mom can't see the hairballs, only the lack of fish. "It was the cats," I'd said. "The cats in the walls!" Mom raised an eyebrow, but Dad nodded.

"I guess they skip a generation."
