Occupied Space

Post by PureChance » Fri Aug 10, 2012 9:44 am

"Yeah! Kill Him" I screamed with the mob. "Kill the body-snatcher!"

"What have you done with my husband you monster!" yelled his wife near the front of the crowd as she beat her fists against the shackled creature. Several of the stronger townsmen had taken control of the prisoner and were dragging him to the centre for a good old fashioned lynching. They were, after all, terrified. I could understand that. My own reason was a little more selfish however - we couldn't have these body-snatchers coming in here, into our town, and taking skin-suits meant for good, hard-working bugs.

Indeed it is. Although actually this was about magicians and polar bears originally, in a roundabout kind of way. I have this really fun childrens book where if you read from one end its about a little girl who goes to the park, and her blanket turns into a giant white bear to protect her from an evil wizard, and if you turn it over and read from the other side its about a little boy who goes to the park and his blanket turns into a magic carpet, and him into a magician, to let him defeat the monstrous white bear that tried to eat him. On the centre double spread its got an illustration that works both ways up, one implying success for each party. I was trying to think about how to do that in a drabble, but couldn't really come up with a convincing way aside from using an illustration or switching voices. I may still give it a go if I can figure it out. Anyway, this one just sort of popped out whilst I was thinking of that.

On the other hand, perhaps pretending its an insightful political commentary about the state of the world today makes it Profound and Meaningful.
