Up To Me (Family Obligations Theme)

Post by PhineasQP » Tue Dec 04, 2012 1:39 am

Being the only one of the kids with no family of his own, it naturally fell to me to visit our parents every weekend. I understood. Everyone else had lives.

When we lost Mom, it was necessary that I move in with my father to take care of him. Who else?

After cancer took Dad, it was my responsibility to clean out the house. And when I found his journal hidden in the basement, along with his knives and those… trophies… I realized that Dad had something important in his life.

It's up to me to carry on for him.

The lives of great men all remind us
As their pages o'er we turn
That we're apt to leave behind us
"Trophies" that we ought to burn.

You know, it wouldn't have taken much more to turn this into a Holiday Traditions piece as well as family obligations. Pointy elf ears make pretty good trophies.

Not a bad idea. Put a bunch of dried prunes in a freezer bag, and tell your kids they're elves' ears. Here, try one!

Okay, you can tell them they regenerate.

Wuss.

It's pretty creepy, just slipping it in at the end there so you now this dutiful kid will be just as diligent... Nice.
