Six thousand threads dip forward on six thousand spools, and ricochet back with one click.

They make a sound like a child swinging down over a canyon on a zip-line, only deafening. Every spool dives forward and down, backward and up. Then, each repeats its motion with the slightest modification of direction.

Six thousand threads perform their own synchronized ballet among themselves. Six thousand threads of violet sway forward and back, interlocking to create six thousand soft cloths, six thousand cloth tubes…six thousand absolutely hideous purple sweaters to be sent to six thousand nephews.

What if Aunt Maude were omnipotent?

Ha, a malevolent deity with the power to compel you to wear nasty jumpers - scary.

I did not see where this was doing, I was imaging a cosmological super-string analogy. I like it when the mundane is converted into the weird.

I was envisioning a sentient cotton loom in a mill in New England. Cool story!
