Occupied Lives

Post by lyda » Tue Sep 03, 2013 9:12 pm

The waning sunlight danced through the trees.

His heart leapt as he saw children outside the park running towards
the lengthening shadow of the hovering invasion fleet. He relaxed
when he saw the waiting ice cream van. He could just make out the
faint sounds of the Centauri army marching down D'Olier St.

His edginess surprised him. He'd given no thought to his nerves.
Now, in the moment he'd planned for weeks, his own emotions were
the final hurdle.

He looked across the checkered blanket into her eyes. He shifted
onto his knee; producing the package.

"I want a divorce."

How like a proposal... well, I suppose a divorce request is a proposal too. And on a knee! No wonder the invading space armies seem so a propos.

Good one, Lyda! :)

Such a tease, with the invading army! But then again, aren't they always telling us to let human stories take the stage in spec fic? This setup made for a very unexpected punchline!
