Name Theft

Post by Varda » Fri Nov 08, 2013 7:13 pm

Name theft’s the most serious crime you can visit upon a man. A man ain’t nothing without his moniker. I used to believe ain’t nobody could take it from me.

Before she came.

In my ignorance, I’d caper at night around my fire, chanting those unrivaled syllables to the steadfast moon. T’was but twenty-four hours before the adoption of my son. I had a reasonable expectation of privacy. I don’t know how she found me.

The woman cheated, though. The devil told her. No way she guessed.

Small consolation.

“Rumpelstiltskin,” I rage at the cruel moon, “Rumpelstiltskin was my name!”
