The last thing he expected when he opened the door was nothing.
And yet, that’s exactly what he saw.
Nothing.
Not “nothing” in the sense of “Move along, please, nothing to see here”, but rather “nothing” in the sense of absolutely nothing to see, period. Here, there, or anywhere else, from the looks of it.
No sky. No ground. No moon. No stars. No people. No animals. No...anything.
In a word, nothing.
He looked up, then down, to the left, to the right.
Everywhere he looked, there was nothing.
He listened. And he heard nothing.
“Hello?” he whispered.
Nothing answered.
Nothing.

i work from home. my office is in the basement. my officemates are two dogs and a cat. it always feels like the office is closed.
