One for Everyone

Post by Scattercat » Thu Mar 13, 2014 12:10 pm

The bowl was full of Death, individually wrapped. The skeleton sat on the porch with the bowl between its knees. A sign taped to its ribcage read, “One per person. No exceptions!” The clutch of plastic be-masked elementary schoolers huddled at the end of the sidewalk, unwilling to move forward.

“No one wants to go?” said Mike, who had been unhappily drafted into trick-or-treating duty. “Well, then let’s get to the next house. C’mon, chop chop.”

There was a cough from behind them. “The sign,” said a hollow voice, “is clear. One for everyone.”

And that’s the way it was.

I like what you did there.

But huddlers huddled is too much huddling.

And now I'm trapped in an echo chamber, huddled in the corner as the word "huddle" bounces like Yosemite Sam from wall to wall.

From behind me, the Hollow Voice: "Well played, Scattercat. Well played."

The only question I have is whether those deaths were filled with little razor blades. :P

"Go on, take it," he said. "The first hit's free."

And he chuckled to himself, thinking, "The first hit is always free."

Fun drabble, Scattercat.

Nice. Halloween in March is like Christmas in July. Bloody beautiful.

I really liked this one :) A lot. One for everyone, no exceptions!
