Rock Monuments (Fate Theme)

Post by Varda » Thu Apr 03, 2014 11:18 pm

“They’re called cairns,” Jacqui explained as they threaded their way between the rock heaps on the shore. “The hikers leave them.”

Wendy marveled at the precarious physics of them: five or six large stones balanced vertically, stoic in the face of the oncoming waves. “Let’s build one.”

“Why bother? Tide’ll take them soon enough. Cheap way to leave your mark, anyway.”

But Wendy had already started stacking. It was harder than it looked. You had to select stones that fit together, that leaned on each other against wind and gravity. “It’s not about immortality,” said Wendy. “The point’s the attempt.”
