Armed with court order, supported by state police, the investigators dug at the grave of the purported “airship imp” while a small group of locals looked on. Presently they heaved out a century-old butter crate. With reverence, they lifted the lid to reveal the tiny corpse in its silver jumpsuit.

A shotgun roared, dropping investigators. The locals departed, unhurried. The trooper looked at the man with the shotgun, who nodded.

“Sorry, dad,” the trooper said. He drew his pistol and shot.

“Sorry, granddad,” he said tenderly to the box. Picking up a shovel, chose a fresh spot for the grave.

Well, that'll teach me not to impulse-post. I was reminded by the swirls of the internet yesterday about the Aurora Airship (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aurora,_Te ... O_incident), and I knocked this out. Mr. Sensible from his perch up on the right shoulder said "You need more than 100 words for this." Mr. Silly on the other side said, "Aw, it'll be fine. Go on!"

But you two and Mr. Sensible were entirely right. More backstory required.

Oh, that wiki article is intriguing.

I vote for more backstory! :)

Penman Bland. Just checking to see what the crowd milling around here is looking at, I resolved to approach your drabble determined to read slowly enough to follow and not let go. I must say that is quite a ride. It appears to be a Trailer of a Trailer. If you ever want to disorient someone, you may challenge them to do this.

Therefore I vote with tibbi.
