They began laughing the moment he came through the door. Insults, taunts, and obscenities followed him as he limped across the room. He found an empty chair and fell into it, exhausted from navigating the crowd.

Surveying the other competitors, he figured he was the oldest by twenty years. He smiled and unhooked the strap that held the artificial leg to the stump ‘Nam had given him. He let it crash loudly to the floor.

The bell rang. He stood and balanced on his good leg. The Fourteenth Annual Ass-Kicking Competition had begun and he was ready to get busy.

I wonder how he's gonna kick while standing on one leg. But I suppose I'll have to think about that.

I'm guessing he's well-practised at one-legged hopping (is there any other kind?) and will wield his prosthetic as a weapon.

Freudian typo. I mean it must be... or why would Americans have the expression?

It's funny. I read that and saw no error... "ass-licking" seems a natural progression from plain "licking", to beat someone in a contest of some kind.

You're right, it just sort of diminishes the significance of his single-leggedness.
Unless...
"Busier than a man with lock-jaw in an ass-licking competition."
