Diary of the World's End
It was October when they first arrived. Great wings carried them over rooftops and into our city squares. They dragged us from our houses, herded us, corralled us then branded our flesh with metal symbols heated in the roaring pyres where once our churches stood. Few attempted escape, and those that did were swiftly chased down and rended limb from limb. Our streets are overrun with shifting, shapeless, nameless things known only by their scent for blood and voracity for human pain. Within a day our technology had failed. We enter now a new dark age of fear and hate.

Suddenly found myself overcome with that christmassy feeling, not quite sure why.
Must be the rending
I like the atmosphere of this one.
Must be the rending

Seriously though, my drabble is up there

". . . heated in the roaring pyres where our churches once stood." and use of the word rended made this enjoyable for me to read but the whole thing was pretty good too :O
Many on the forum have asked me, so here's my answer: a spoonful of lighter fluid. And you'll need to wash it out really well when you're done.
