Ocean Noir

The water rushes over me pressing me into the nets. My lungs burn, yearning for air.
I knew that cow was trouble when she came into my office.
I puff out my blowhole but still no air.
“Mr. Bottle!” It’s Timmy, the orphan crab who follows me around. For the first time I’m elated to see him. He clips the net and I swim to the surface gulping the air. I hate being a dolphin.
“Thanks Tim,” I say as he put’s my fedora back on my head. The fishing ship chugs away, its torn net flapping in the waves.

I don't get it. a private dick line?
I hate being a dolphin?
I don't believe it. Of all creatures, Dolphins cannot conceivably hate being dolphins.
“Mr. Bottle!” It’s Timmy
Would be better to separate into two lines
fishing ship
Can't help but read as "fish 'n chips".

I want more Mr. Bottle stories! The idea of a dolphin detective is just too good to abandon.

In whales and dolphins, the females are called cows and the males are called bulls. Don't ask me why, because they don't have horns.

Apart from Narwhales, of course. Although come to think of it, that's a tusk.

Thanks, but your explanation stopped before it got the the part where the light turns on. It was a stretch to guess the trope was being evoked to indicate the dolphin was a private eye. Wouldn't have connected without the title.
Thank goodness to Prarie Home Companion for that.

Well, that's the first time anyone has said THAT about me.
